The roof, Wednesday evening

Nadia lay on the edge of the roof on a towel with one of the books from the library open in front of her. She knew from her conversation with Alfred that she wasn't likely to find any details about Walter's mission itself in the books, but at least she could get an idea of the area he was getting into. And maybe a better idea of where he came from, in general.

The ideas she was getting weren't pretty. But then, she'd learned early on that a lot of things in life weren't.

Distractions would, of course, be entirely welcome.

"Well," Nadia said, backing up again and moving sideways towards the door. "You can always try. But you've got to catch me, first."

She dashed for the door, not really expecting to make it.

"Oh no you don't!"

Cally tried to catch up and made a grab for Nadia, more trying to get her dirtier than anything else.

So she wasn't exactly watching where she was grabbing.

Nadia let out a squeak at just where Cally was grabbing and twisted away reflexively. She peered at Cally for a moment. "Was that on purpose?"

Cally definitely knew she had a boyfriend, right?

"Completely an accident," Cally said, throwing up her hands. "Honest to gods."

"Okay then. Because if Walter ever found out. . . ."

And, oh, hey, Nadia totally wasn't saying that she hadn't enjoyed it. What was up with that?

Cally nodded. "I'm not exactly little miss kiss and tell," she said. "Erm, not that there has been any kissing."

"No. No kissing." Yet . . . wait, no. . . .

Nadia rubbed her goopy forehead with one goopy hand. "I think I might need to be drunk for this conversation."

"Miiight want to think about the whole shower thing, first," Cally said. "Because drinking now might end up with enginey aftertaste."

She was avoiding talking about the situation, oh yes.

Ohhhh, but I wanna drink. . . .

"That's probably a good idea." Nadia wrinkled her nose. "We're kinda smelly."

Okay, so the awkwardness doesn't stop her completely.

"So... together?" Cally raised bothh eyebrows, trying to not look too hopeful.

Nadia opened her mouth to respond, but paused for a moment.

"I'm thinking that wouldn't be a good idea."

"I'm thinking you didn't say it would be a bad one," Cally replied, fiddling with the zipper on her jumpsuit.

Nadia blushed. "Cally, you're a great girl, and if I were trashed, I would totally take you up on that. But, um, I'm not. And I have a boyfriend. And even though he's run off to possibly die and I might never know, I should probably at least give him a couple days before, um, following up on other prospects."

Cally gulped. But then nodded. "Probably for the best, yeah."

Nadia winced. "I'm sorry." She knew how much it sucked to get turned down. "But if you need more help later with the viper, let me know, okay?"

Or get me drunk, either way. . . . hush, you.
