Computer lab, Saturday evening

Nadia came in and immediately sat down at one of the computers, switching on the monitor and calling up a search engine.

Then she stared at it.

What the heck was she supposed to search for? Oh hell.

Walter went to stand by the windows, watching outside rather than ineffectually tapping at the computer.

Nadia scrolled through the list Google had called up.

She shook her head. No! Not anger-eating, speech eating!

Walter glanced away from the window and moved to be able to read over her shoulder while still watching outside.

Nadia scowled. Putting quotations around it didn't bring up anything. Time to try something else.

Cally wandered in and waved. She wasn't exactly research girl, but it wouldn't hurt.

Nadia waved back, calling up her email program automatically and logging in. While she was here, she might as well multi-task.

Walter glanced at that one and snickered. Silently.

He went over and wrote for her, Try demon and mute?

Nadia tried it and started skimming it again. Her email program beeped quietly in the background, trying to tell her she had a new message.

Walter waved back from his place at the window.

Walter squinted, closed his left eye and skimmed for a few minutes before turning away to look outside.

Cally sat down next to Nadia and opened up a search browser.

Surprisingly Santa Claus Heart Demons (http://search.yahoo.com/search?p=santa+claus+heart+demons&prssweb=Search&ei=UTF-8&fr=FP-tab-web-t&x=wrt) doesn't come up with anything useful.

Nadia got sick of the soft beeping and angrily clicked the icon to open the email.

A short time later, any sounds, the tapping of her foot, clicking of the mouse, soft breaths, fell silent.

Nadia went quiet as she read an email.

This was the last thing she needed.

Walter glanced over when he heard the pause. When there's no other sound, that cessation was hard to miss.

He came back over when he saw the look on Nadia's face, but it wasn't a website, but an email in a language he didn't know.

He tapped Nadia on the shoulder to get her attention.

Cally sadly couldn't really notice that Nadia went quiet, but she could see her expression when she turned.

She nudged Nadia gently. 'You okay?' she mouthed.

Nadia let out a hard breath. She shook her head slowly, not sure how to explain it without a voice. She opened a text program and quickly typed:

email from home. bad news. v. bad news.

Nadia shook her head, wondering if Cally read Spanish.

Walter pulled a chair over and sat next to her. He pointed a finger at her and mouthed You okay?

Cally looked at Nadia's screen, had no idea what it said, and turned back to her. She was about to ask her if she wanted to talk about, but then realized the futility.

She pulled out her notebook.

Nadia shook her head slowly. There was no reason to lie, right now. i'll be okay

Nadia looked up and offered Pippi a weak smile.

Pippi returned the smile, she'd been a while in the common room talking with people. Trying to drum up more info.

Nadia took a deep breath, blinking fairly rapidly. She shook her head again. She typed into a blank text document.
