Fourth floor common room, Sunday morning

Dean was in the kitchen cooking up pancakes for Dawn. Making the batter had been relatively easy, but trying to come up with funny shapes was proving a little more difficult. He tried to do a car but it came out looking more like a deformed amoeba. He had better look with the teddy bear -- one large circle with two smaller ones for ears and that was the first one he presented to his girl friend, along with sides of bacon and eggs.

"This okay?" he asked, still in full grovelling mode.

Dawn was impressed by Dean's subtlety. Except for the part where there wasn't any. "If you want," she shrugged, just as successful as Dean at being casual.

Dean was completely incapable of keeping the smile off his face. "Oh I want," he said with feeling. "I want very much."

She smiled. "So it's a date, then."

Dawn's smile made him feel all sorts of things and Dean had to clear his throat before he was able to speak again. "It is. Tonight?"

"It just so happens I have tonight free," Dawn said, feeling shy again.

"Tonight it is then. And I promise not to turn into anyone else between now and then."

She kissed him. "That'll be a nice change."

"I'm even trying to make a habit of it," Dean quipped. "Trying for all Dean all the time."

"That's a habit I can definitely get behind."

"You going to help encourage me then?" he asked with a grin, brushing the hair back from Dawn's face and leaning in to kiss her again.

She closed the distance and kissed him back. "What do I have to do?"

"This is good," Dean breathed against her lips.

Dawn licked her upper lip, then Dean's. "I can do this, I think."

Dean smiled. "You do it really well," he told her.

"So do you." She used her thumb to make little circles in the crook of his elbow. "Though you've had more practice."

"Not that much more," Dean emphasised. "And you're a fast learner."

"Maybe it's just that I have a good teacher?"

Dean grinned. "That can't hurt."

"Nope."

Dean stole another kiss. "God, tonight seems a long way off."

"Not so long," Dawn countered, beginning to get a little flaily at the idea.

Dean could see she was getting jittery. "So," he said, taking her hand and rubbing his thumb over the pulse point in her wrist, "will it be easier if I give you time to yourself before tonight or would you rather I do my best to distract you?"

"I think I need some time to myself," she said, looking at him apologetically. "Not that I don't think you can't be a great distraction."

"It's okay," Dean said, grinning at her. "Just gives me something to look forward to."

"Me too." Dawn smiled as the butterflies in her stomach began to swarm. "Thank you for breakfast."
