Fourth Floor common room, Wednesday evening

Dean was ensconced in front of the tv, plenty of unhealthy snacks within easy reach. On the tv was something with a lot of car chases and explosions. Perfect for mindless viewing.

"Do you think we can get therapy for this sort of thing?" Conner asked, half-serious.

"Everyone I know encourages me, because it saves them from having to read the boring stuff," Dawn pouted, "plus they think it keeps me out of the line of fire."

"Um, there may be somewhere, but I think it's in Tibet."

"Ancient curses keep you out of the line of fire?" asked Conner, dubiously. "But the kidnapping!"

He scratched his head and did that freaky thing where he looked like her roommate again. "Is it really worth going all the way to Tibet for that?"

"The kidnapping doesn't usually happen while I'm working on the curses," Dawn explained. "The kidnapping happens lots of other times. Like when I'm doing my math homework." Or almost nearly ready to start doing her math homework.

"Depends on whether you don't want to do it anymore, I guess. I like it, most of the time."

"Do your teachers accept that as an excuse?" Conner wondered. "I mean, 'Sorry I didn't do my term paper, I was tied up in an abandoned warehouse somewhere' is a lot better than 'The dog ate my homework.'"

He tapped his chin and grinned. "Yeah, I guess I like it too, pretty much."

"At my old school? No. They were big on gangs on PCP, though," she snorted. "Or barbeque fork accidents. Here, maybe they might?"

"Barbeque fork accidents?" Conner repeated, the expression on his face a pretty clear indication of how absurd he thought that excuse was. "I don't know if that's better or worse than people just going around like half of downtown Reefside gets destroyed for no reason at all on a regular basis, and it's no big deal. Problem is, I think around here that sort of thing happens often enough that it wouldn't be an excuse."

"Maybe it would get you out of one day, but not two?" She suggested, hopefully. "And Reefside gets destroyed a lot? The barbeque fork thing, by the way, is to cover for all the vampire related deaths."

"Yeah, insurance companies make a killing in my town. Sometimes I think they're secretly in on the whole deal," Conner said, rolling his eyes. "Reefside has got to have the lowest downtown real estate prices with the highest insurance premiums of any town except maybe Angel Grove."

He snickered. "Barbeque forks, ha. Like people would really have that many accidents involving accidentally falling neck-first onto barbeque forks? I love human logic sometimes."

"Sounds like Sunnydale," Dawn decided. "And people believe what they want to, or what they need to to not go crazy."

[identity profile] connernotconnor.livejournal.com 2006-07-27 04:23 am (UTC)(link)
"I guess that's true," acknowledged Conner. "It just seems weird when you've been on the other side and know what's really going on."

Dawn leaned forward excitedly, "I know! I mean, don't you wonder how people can walk around being so oblivious?" She ignored the part where that had been her until she was twelve or thirteen.
