Dean was ensconced in front of the tv, plenty of unhealthy snacks within easy reach. On the tv was something with a lot of car chases and explosions. Perfect for mindless viewing.

Dean raised an eyebrow. "You think my first time didn't matter that much or mean anything?"

"Well, no. I mean, I do think it mattered," Sam said, backtracking as best he could. "That's different, because like you said, your first time always means something..."

"Was that the sound of you getting my point?" Dean asked wryly.

Sam smirked. "That was the sound of me agreeing that not all one night stands are meaningless. But think about it, which was better - your first time, or being with Dawn?"

"That's not a fair question," Dean protested.

"That's totally a fair question," Sam argued. "And now you can see my point. I'm sure your first time was fun and good and you totally blew the girl away. But if I can wait until someone like Dawn comes along..." He trailed off, shrugging.

"It's not a fair question because it's not fair to compare lovers," Dean explained. "You start doing that, you're really going to get in trouble. You don't go into it rating your partner against everybody else you've slept with -- one night stand or deep and meaningful relationship. You just enjoy each experience and each relationship however long its been for what it is."

He looked at Sam assessingly, hearing what his brother was saying between the words. "You still like Dawn, don't you."

"Maybe you can think like that, but I don't know if I can. And, first times aside, I still think most one night stands are kind of like using the person just for sex."

Sam managed to hold his gaze and not glance away when Dean looked at him. "That's not at all what I said."

"It's not using if you both want the same thing," Dean argued. He returned Sammy's gaze steadily. "Maybe not with words, but that's what you said."

"No, I said someone like Dawn. I was just using her as an example, for you," Sam protested.

"You haven't actually denied it though," Dean pointed out.

"Yes I did," Sam replied, nearly whining, and now he wasn't looking at Dean anymore. "I told you that wasn't what I meant, because I don't still like her. I mean, I like her as a friend and a roommate, but that's it."

"You never could look at me when you lie," Dean observed.

Sam picked his head up and looked back up at Dean. "I'm not lying."

Dean looked long and hard at his brother, then finally nodded slowly. "Okay."

He still was pretty sure that there was more there than Sammy was admitting, but if Sammy wanted to deny it this badly, who was he to pull it out of him? It's not like this was something he oculd actually fix.

Sam let out a breath like he'd been holding it back. He couldn't tell if Dean really believed him, but at least he wasn't arguing about it anymore. "Okay. Good."

Trying to get the conversation back on track, Dean said, "But you do like Buffy, right?"

"Of course I do," Sam replied quickly. "I wouldn't be dating her if I didn't."

"You don't have any moral objection to making out with her, do you? Because I'm going to start worrying about you if you do."

Sam turned a little red as he thought about making out with Buffy, because really, it was a very nice thought. "No, I don't, don't worry."

"Good. You do that when she comes back," Dean advised. "Who knows? One thing might lead to another and you'll find yourself in the middle of a non-one-night-stand meaningful experience."

"Maybe," Sam said, smiling gently. "I guess we'll have to wait and see."
