Gym, Tuesday morning

One might say that Bel was full of aggression this morning by the way he was viciously attacking the punching bag. Phoebe hadn't come back to the room that night after their...was it even a fight? After she'd run out of the room because he wouldn't talk to her about the weird feelings she was picking up from him. He wasn't surprised she hadn't come home; he hoped Lana was taking care of her.

How the hell was he going to work this out? Stupid boycrush. Stupid empathic powers of the girlfriend. Stupid Bel.

For now, punching would do.

Marty headed into the gym, raising an eyebrow at Belthazor beating the crap out of the punching bag. He gave Bel a curt nod as he started stretching out.

"Bad day?"

Wandering into the gym, Callisto swore under her breath when she saw Belthazor had already snagged the punch bag. She headed over to the mats and started drilling instead.

"You could say that," Bel grumbled, giving the bag a firm kick.

"What did the bag do to you?" Marty said with a small smirk.

Marty waved at Callisto.

"Morning!" he said cheerfully.

Bel caught Callisto's arrival out of the corner of his eye. Great, he groaned silently, wondering if she'd heard the radio announcement that he and Dawn had been discussing Angel's anatomy. That was all he needed.

"It's blue," Bel said, shrugging. Seemed as good a reason as any.

"Marty," Callisto grunted. She moved through her drill with all the elegance and grace of a herd of stampeding rhinoceroes on a drunken bender.

Callisto glared at Bel. Possibly because she'd heard the radio broadcast, possibly because she was wondering why she had a sudden yet completely unrelated urge to throw him off the roof.

Marty was beginning to wonder if the equipment in the gym was going to be all broken by the end of Bel and Callisto's workout routine.

"Beautiful day isn't it?" he asked cheerfully.

Bel saw the glare and assumed she'd heard the broadcast. "It's not what you think," he said in protest.

"I see," Marty said grateful he wasn't wearing anything blue today. "And is it just blue that's bugging you or all the color variations that involve blue?"

Callisto movements somehow managed to become even jerkier. "Just spiffy."

"It's not?" Callisto asked, still glaring, since she wasn't even sure what she was thinking.

"Just this particular shade," Bel said. "Don't worry, I'm not going to go rampaging through the school attacking any blue squad cheerleaders unfortunate enough to wear their uniforms today."

"Dawn brought it up. Flailing, I might add," Bel said. "I didn't want to discuss it. Why would I want to dicuss Angel's anatomy? Furthest thing from my mind, really."

"Funny, you don't look it," Marty mentioned in an offhand manner. "Spiffy that is."

Well, at least she had a reason now. "You what?"

"Well, I guess some mornings just aren't as conductive to spiffiness as they used to be," Callisto replied.

"Uh-huh," Marty replied looking somewhat pensive. "So do you want to do the thing where as guys we totally avoid the topic that's really bothering someone and just talk Sports or should we crack open a wine spritzer and reveal our feelings and analyze them in excruiating detail?"

Oops. Maybe she hadn't heard the radio. "It was nothing!" he said hastily. "It was about...how I'm bigger. I've got two inches on him."

He meant height. Maybe he should've been more specific.

"Maybe you should try just smiling," Marty said cheerfully. "Sometimes all you need to do is force yourself to smile and it'll make you feel better. Plus I've heard it'll suppress the gag reflex. Not that there's a need to suppress anything but it's a good fact to know."

Callisto raised one eyebrow. "Suuuuuuuuuure you do."

At that moment Marty owed more to the weapons ban than he would ever know. "I don't feel like smiling."

"Had a fight with Phoebe," Bel said gruffly, as if that should explain everything.
