Bridge was sprawled on the couch, flipping through channels absently until he settles on one broadcasting a concert: Kira Ford, Live From New York.

"What?" teased Conner. "Don't you think we could use a side of Jello dragons just to spice things up on top of the confusion?"

"If we're attacked by Jell-o dragons, I'm blaming you, you realize," Dawn made a face at him.

"Hey, I missed out last time. Do you know how long it's been since I had Jello?" grinned Conner. "I haven't had any since a while before I left home, so technically it's been over two years now!"

"Two years? Don't you miss everybody?"

"Well." Conner shrugged. "To me it's only been a couple of months."

He glanced over at the TV. "I mean, when I left home, Kira had just left for New York to try and break into the music business, and check her out now!"

"You know her?" Dawn asked, impressed. "She's pretty good."

"She was a teammate of mine, sort of," Conner explained proudly. "The first time we met was in detention, because Principal Randall -- she was the evil cyborg -- busted her for playing guitar on campus without a permission form."

He didn't mention that he'd gotten detention for ditching his first class, on the first day of school, to play soccer.

"You needed permission to play a guitar? Wow, strict."

"Well, that's the thing, see, you didn't. Randall was on some kind of crazy cyborg power trip. Out of the three of us in that detention, Kira's the only one who didn't deserve it."

"So kind of like here, with the lottery?" Dawn asked, trying to figure this out.

"It was a little closer to convenient plot device a hunting party, I guess," Conner said. "She busted us all personally, but it was like she tracked us down."

"Huh. Is she related to a little bald guy who acted like Napoleon?" Not that Dawn ever met Principal Snyder, but she'd heard stories.

Conner had heard a few things from Willow himself. "I wouldn't rule it out."

"Gah. No wonder you like it here."

"Can you blame me?" Conner grinned. "At least here we don't live in the happy land of barbecue fork accident denial."

"Can you believe that? Then there's the gangs on PCP story, which was fun," Dawn grinned back.

"What, for the vampires?" Conner rolled his eyes. "Dude, seriously, if they're using that as an excuse they're seriously missing out on a really effective anti-drug PSA."

"That's the explanation the cops used," Dawn rolled her eyes. "I don't think public safety was their number one concern."

"Do you ever get the feeling things would be easier if we had cops like the ones Bridge is in training to be?"

Dawn looked over at him fondly. "I think there are many things in my life that would have been easier if there'd been a Bridge around."

Conner sent an equally affectionate look in Bridge's direction. "He's part of a good tradition, but he's also a really unique guy. His teammates are really lucky to have him around, and he's gonna be a good Ranger someday."

"You sound very confident of that."

Conner grinned. "I know I would've wanted him on my team. Not that Kira --" he chucked a thumb at the screen -- "and Ethan weren't good teammates, but I think Bridge has all the right stuff to do the job well."

"Maybe that's why he and Xander are so good together," Dawn mused.

"I don't know Xander all that well, but I guess I can see that, yeah."
