Outside the dorms, Wednesday morning

Aeryn isn't out too early this morning, but she figures she has time for a run before she has to go to class this afternoon. She's probably going to be paranoid about the weather for the rest of the summer, which is why as soon as she finishes stretching, she's using the little weather checker thing John gave her to make sure she's okay to do this.

Stupid planet.

One of the problems of having dupes is when they get into a schedule of conditioning it tends to cross over at times.

Which explains why instead of sleeping in like he used to do, Jamie is up early and has a compulsion to actully jog. Stupid dupes.

"Morning," Jamie said with a nod to Aeryn. "Getting in a morning run?"

She nods, standing up from where she'd been stretching. "It's easier to actually go somewhere rather than staying in one place on a treadmill," she explains.

"Plus you feel less like a gerbil in a cage," Jamie commented. "Mind if I join you?"

"Not at all. I was just planning on going around the preserve and back," she says, tucking the weather machine into a little pocket on her pants.

"To borrow a phrase from one of the Dean of students: Keen." Jamie said stretching out a bit and then nodding to the object she just pocketed. "That one of those hi-tech pedometers?"

She shakes her head, kind of non-committally. "Checks the weather. We should be good."

"Good," Jamie nodded. "Any particular route? I haven't gone around the preserve yet."

"I usually just go around back that way," she says, nodding in the direction with her chin, "and through the woods, mostly. If you follow the coastline straight through, it leads you back tto the school."

"Let's get started, shall we?" Jamie said starting off in the direction Aeryn had indicated. "Let me know if my pace is too slow for you."

Aeryn starts off easy enough. "It almost definitely will be," she says. "A few of us used to go in groups last year, and anytime I'd look back they'd be a metra behind me, still talking."

Jamie gave Aeryn a little smirk and quickened his pace. "You're not one for small talk are you?"

She smiles a little. "You're just noticing?"

"Well I thought the whole 'tough girl' act was hiding some kind of 'shy girl' thing," Jamie replied with chuckle. "Now I know it's just tough girl who most likely break my back if I do the wrong thing."

"To be fair, you would probably get a warning from me first," she assures him.

"Make sure it isn't subtle," Jamie replied. "I tend to be oblivious to subtlety. I blame genetics."

"You can blame that on genetics?" she asks. Because if that thing can be passed down, she's going to wonder once again how this species survives so long if they keep passng down traits like that.

"Beats blaming my intelligence," Jamie said with a grin. "Which can be suspect at times."

"I find that to be a common theme with humans."

She's mostly joking.

Jamie just cocks an eyebrow at that. "Oh yeah? So what are some common themes with your race? Can everyone where you're from kill other creatures with a ballpoint pen?"

"Once they figure out it could be used as a weapon, probably," she says, then thinks it over. "Not everyone. Nearly my entire species is bred to be military. Soldiers could do it, yes. "We have techs and medical officers that wouldn't have that sort of training, though, and there are a few Sebacean colonies spread throughout the galaxy that probably wouldn't even think of it."

"So you were born and bred to be a soldier?" Jamie asks. "That certainly explains a lot of things. How did you end up here?"

"I was originally sent as part of a test, or further training. Some of us were sent to different planets to see how well we could adjust," she explains. It really has gotten easier the last few months. "I did too well. So I'm here permanently now."

"You did too well?" Jamie said really beginning to sweat now. "What's that supposed to mean?"

"I was called back into service and adjusting back proved to be more difficult than I thought," she says. "I'm out of the military now."
