Fifth floor common room, Tuesday morning

Nadia hadn't so much slept last night. Or, rather, she hadn't slept so much. She had gotten in a little bit of sleep, but it was restless.

It was just enough sleep to remind her that she might have been able to see Sloane coming, if she paid attention to her dreams. So she was sitting on the floor between the kitchen counter and the table, where she could see the doors pretty easily, but she wouldn't be spotted right away, with her laptop, typing up every bit of dream she could remember from the last few weeks.

There wasn't much.

The unidentifiable yet familiar silohuette holding up a gun was obviously Sloane. The gun might not be literal, though. She both hoped it was and hoped it wasn't. A gun from him would give her reason to kill him.

The other image that kept popping up in her head really terrified her though. She couldn't remember much of it, or when she'd dreamed it up, but it was a series of mirrors surrounding her, none reflecting her image.

She'd learned about brainwashing techniques in her training. Mostly how to withstand them, but she knew that resisting it was a matter of continued focus and practice, and that beginning agents were more succeptable to it than more experienced ones.

Was that what Sloane planned? To make her forget who she was, become someone else? Someone who would join him?

She closed her laptop and set it to the side and hugged her knees.

"You've your cap set for a mercenary," Walter pointed out. "I think it sounds as though you two are doing well if you're blowing things up and using deadly weapons."

"I think you have a point." Pippi said with a grin.

"Of course I do," Walter said, smiling back and passing her a plate of eggs. "I usually do."

"Hmmmmm!" Pippi said taking the plate from him and digging in.

"So, you're rather rumpled." she said. "Where did you two sleep last night?"

Walter reflexively smoothed out his waistcoat. "Here. Sort of." Not so much.

Pippi looked around to the multiple points of entry.

"This isn't a very defensible position Walter."

"I know that, but I haven't been able to convince Nadia to go anywhere else. Later she's letting me take her down to Cafe Fina, and I know she'll be safe there."

"There's a room down the hall that nobody lives in and doesn't have a door." Pippi said pointing. "528. Then we'd just have an open door and a window to watch."

"I'll make sure to mention that to her. She doesn't want to stay at Cafe Fina too long, so I assume we'll be back up here at some point."

"If you like, I can come down and sit with her while you're working."

Because it's such a hardship to sit around at Cafe Fina. Except that one of the chef's possibly has a thing about feeding her food made from "rustic cuts of meat".

"I'm not working today. I called Alfred yesterday as soon as I found out about Sloane. He understands, even if Wadsworth is probably annoyed."

He shrugged and smiled. "You're still welcome to come down. If you're there, I'll actually get some sleep when she naps, too."

"Good." Pippi said. "You need to sleep too."
