Third Floor Common Room, Late Sunday

As was becoming a tradition, Angela skipped the new student orientation because she hated crowds.

But she was a little curious about the shiny new people, so she went out to the common room late Sunday. Even if no one wandered in, she could have cookie dough ice cream and watch The Z-Cases.

Life was good.

Okay, so she'd met a handful of people at the orientation-thing, and unpacked all her stuff. Next on the list? See what channels the TVs here got. So she wandered in to the common room.

"Oooh, hi!" Carmela says, upon noticing that someone was already there. "Mind if I...?" she waves at the couch.

"Go for it," Angela said, scooting to make sure Carmela had plenty of room. "Do you like Z-Cases??"

"I'm mostly an anime fan?" Carmela admits sheepishly. "But I have to admit, Wolf is kind of hot."

"I know basically nothing about anime," Angela said. "But yeah, Wolf is really hot. Though it kidn of bugs me that they keep going into creepy basements where you know they're gonna get jumped."

She held out one hand. "I'm Angela, by the way."

"Seeeriously," Carmela rolls her eyes. "It's like, they should know better, being professionals and all," she takes the offered hand and shakes it enthusiastically. "Carmela."

"Good to meet you," Angela said. "So where are you from and how's school so far?"

"Manhattan- 2006 Manhattan- and this place is *awesome*. Kit is gonna *flip* when I tell him about it."

"So they've told you about the time travel thing?," Angela asked. "I'm from Pittsburgh, 1996. Who's Kit?"

"Yeah, this girl Jaye mentioned it." Carmela nods. "Kit's my little brother. He's a good kid, but he thinks that just 'cause he's a wizard and I'm not, that means he gets to have all the fun."

"Jaye's pretty awesome," Angela said. "You're a big sister too? My sister's almost 13. She's not a wizard, just a pain." She paused. "How's it work that he's magical and you aren't?"

"I'm not entirely sure," Carmela shrugs. "He found this funky book when he was 13, and ever since then, well... our house has been getting progressively weirder." Which was something of an understatement, really. "I'm a fan of weird, though, so it works out."

Chad was returning from his outdoor walk and puppy squeeing when he noticed that the room he'd questioningly passed earlier now had people in it. He tilted his head a little, knocking on the doorframe before entering. It looked to be a common recreation space, but he didn't want to intrude in case he'd mistaken it and had just wandered right into these two girls' room.

"So you'll love this school," Angela said. "it's the weirdest place ever."

Angela raised an eyebrow at the large new kid. "C'mon in," she said, swallowing her ice cream. "Want to watch TV with us?"

Chad didn't really watch a lot of television, but he was never one to turn down an invitation. "Uh, sure." He shifted into the room, chosing to sit in a chair rather than the couch because the chair looked sturdier, in the long run. Weight distribution, and all that stuff. He tilted his head to the TV. "What're we watching?"

Hamlet also wasn't the type to try and navigate the huge new student gatherings, so he finally came out of his room and down to the first open common room he saw late Sunday, after he hoped that most people would be in bed. "Ah, The Z-cases. Is it one of the good episodes?"

"Rerun. Z-Cases," Angela said. "Have you seen it before?"

"Yeah, that's pretty much what Jaye said," Carmela says, grinning widely.

He shook his head. "Don't think I have. I mostly only watched Spontanious Visits and Carnivorous Kingdom."

After a moment, he idly added, but with just the slightest rumble of pride. "I have all of Carnivorous Kingdom on DVD."

Angela held up a hand and tilted it back and forth. "So-so," she said. "It's one of the ones where they think they've found Wolf's sister but it's her double, or something."

Hamlet settled back onto a couch. "Again? Don't they have a storyline revolving around Wolf almost but not discovering his sister's whereabouts at least once per season?"

Angela grinned back, happy there was at least one newbie who wasn't crying in terror. "What grade are you in?"

"That's about animals, right?," Angela said. "I ... like my cat?"

She smiled. "I'm Angela. You're one of the new kids?"

"Seems that way," Angela said. "I've only seen a lot of it in reruns because of the time travel thing, but it seems like he's obsessing about her every other time I watch." She frowned. "Is it really cold if I think he should have moved on after 30 years?"

Chad, not terribly socialable but never rude, gave Hamlet a nod. He idly wondered if that hair colour was real; Ichigo's was, after all, and it reminded Chad of Ichigo's.
