5th Floor Common Room, Afternoon

Lyra walked into the fifth floor common room, chatting over her shoulder to Blair. She moved tot he kitchenette, and rummaged around in the fridge until she found the eggs, butter and a frying pan. What that was doing in the fridge, she had no idea. She shrugged, marking it off mentally as another weird quirk of this increasingly weird place.

She cracked a few eggs into a bowl (that came from a cabinet, this time) and began making omlettes for the two of them and anyone else who came in and begged.

River heard the sounds of someone cooking, and made her way to the kitchen, Berthold in tow. She saw Blair and a girl she didn't know. Probably a newbie.

"Hello!" she said.

"Hullo. Don't think I know you. I'm Lyra Belacqua." She wiped off a hand on her tartan skirt and held it out to shake.

River shook her hand and smiled. "I'm River Tam. You're new, I assume. Where are you from?" She grinned. "And more importantly, what are you cooking?"

Blair took a seat on the counter and watched Lyra cook. "So you like to cook?"

Lyra laughed. "Omlettes are the only thing I'm even a little good at. And baked beans. And toast. In my world, we always had servants to cook."

"Beans on toast!" Blair grinned. "So yummy."

"Servants, huh? How's it like living without them?"

River waved to Blair. "Hello!"

Berthold waved too.

"Hi River!" Blair waved and looked at Berthold. "Who's your friend?"

Bel wandered into the common room. Mmm, demon smell food.

Blair waved his fork at Bel.

"Omelets?" Bel said hopefully.

River tilted her head and looked at Bel. "You're Phoebe's boyfriend. Hello. I'm River."

Bel eyed River warily. He'd heard about her from Tyler, of course, but had never really met her. And he certainly didn't want her crawling around in his head. "Hey," he said. "You're friends with Phoebe?"

"Hey, Cally," Bel said. "Nothing much, just trying to schmooze some food here."

Cally wandered in, and waved to everyone. "Hello!"

"Hullo. I don't know you, but want an omlette, while the stove's still on?" Lyra learned quickly that people's good opinion could be bought with the judicious application of free food.

"Hi," Cally said. "I'm Cally. And while the offer is nice and all, I'm not feelin' very comfortable right now."

Dean had decided to track down his little sister Layla and see how her first week at Fandom was going so he headed up to the fifth floor, ducking his head into the common room first to see who was in there.

Two seconds later, Buffy wandered in, looking for food, fun and friends. She waved to Berthold and River, then beamed. "Hi Deeeeeean-y!"

Dean turned at the familiar voice. "Buffy!" he greeted her with a grin and a hug, ignoring the very annoying nick name. "When did you get back?"

Dean waved at the Other Dean, glad to see him around. "Hey, man. What brings you to the fifth floor?"

"Hey," Dean greeted his brother's double. "Was looking for Layla -- she's my assigned little sister, wanted to check, see how she was doing. Speaking of, how you liking it here so far? Tired yet of having to explain you're not a Winchester?"

Dean was just coming back to the dorms after seeing the basketball game was cancelled. He was kinda depressed, but he heard Lyra and thought he smelled food, so he figured he'd drop into the common room and cheer himself up. "Hey, whatcha making?"

"Sam!" Buffy said, spotting him. "Hi! I've missed you!"

She thought she might give up exclaimation marks after it's been a couple of days, but at the moment she was too happy about being back.
