3rd Floor Common Room: Monday Night

Lana was curled up on the couch in the common room doing some homework with the TV on for background.

She's kind of hoping people will come along and distract her.

Walter had dragged along a stack of books and his notebooks, intending to study with company. Or not study, as the company dictated.

He dropped the stack on the coffee table and sat down on the floor next to it. "It looks as though you and I had the same idea."

"Hi, Walter," Lana said with a smile. "Yep. Study time. Always better when you have the chance of distraction."

"Exactly." Walter made a face at the books he'd brought along and pushed the ones on prophecy aside in favor of one filled with diagrams and pictures of lathes and bores.

"What are you trying not to do homework for?"

"Dr. Wilson's class on humor. Ive actually done this week's, but I wanted to get a little ahead so I don't feel so rushed next week." Lana made a face. "I know, I know. I'm crazy."

Walter shook his head and lifted up one of the books he wasn't reading. "Prophecy. I'm trying to get ahead, too. It's the only one of my classes where I can, and I know that I always seem to miss Monday classes because things tend to explode around here on the weekends."

"Absolutely!" Lana grinned back. "And it's not like we're letting anything slide exactly, so we can almost not even feel guilty about it."

Walter hopped up and started going through the kitchenette's cabinets until he found a bag of popcorn.

"Brilliant." Walter poured some out in a pot and got it popping, then leaned against the counter. "And how are things going for you otherwise?"

"Jim," Lana affirmed. "And yeah, it's really good. As long as he doesn't get too freaked by all the people threatening his life and decide I'm not worth the hassle."

That made Walter laugh. "When Nadia and I first started being more than friends, I had threats that ranged from making me very unhappy to making sure that my body was never found. He'd better not let that put him off."

"He seems to be taking it more in stride now than he was Saturday," Lana said. "So, hopefully it will be okay. I tend to have really bad luck in this area, so I'm always nervous about it."

She smiled a little dreamily. "But he seems like a really good guy."

"He's keeping a list on his door," Lana said with a smile. "I haven't dared tell him that my ever-so-recently-ex guardian is a highly over-protective billionaire with a mean streak. I figured I could save that for next week. Or the next time Lex calls to check up on me and tell me about the background check he's had run on Jim."

"Why didn't I think of that? Your up-to-recently guardian sounds like an interesting sort."

"I thought it was a fairly unique idea myself. And it seemed to make him more amused than annoyed, so that was good."

Lana thought about Lex for a moment or two. "Interesting. He certainly is that. And not really quite willing to accept that he was only to be my guardian from the time I came here till I turned 18. he shows no sign of letting up on the whole thing, really."

"You've turned eighteen, then?" Walter asked. "It's not my business, but maybe he thinks of you as a daughter. Turning eighteen wouldn't really change that."

"Lex?" Lana said disbelievingly. "He's not that much older than I am. I think he just likes the idea of control. He's all about control - which is probably why he's a billionaire," she admitted. "And yes, I turned 18 last month."
