Fifth floor common room, Sunday night (lateish)

Nadia had managed to sleep pretty much all day. Thus she was groggy, but not tired as she shuffled her way out to the common room, Furrball at her heels.

She had the Best. Cat toy. Ever.

A laser pointer.

She flopped onto the couch, turned on the TV, and set to sending Furrball running in circles after a tiny red dot.

Conner's energy level hadn't quite given out yet after a late-evening bit of soccer practice out on the grounds, so he was taking advantage of it while it lasted and wandering the dorms. "Nadia, what are you doing?"

"Oh! Is that the old laser pointer trick?" Conner asked, grinning at Furrball's antics. "That's classic. We used to do that to our cat at home until my brother got the bright idea that Wheelie could help him with ninja training, and . . . yeah."

"Eric wanted to be a ninja," Conner said, rolling his eyes, "but he wasn't very good at it. It didn't stop him from practicing, though, and it's a really good thing we had a waterproof home insurance policy."

He watched Furrball's repeated and futile pouncing attempts with growing amusement. "I love how the little laser dot's always a surprise for them."

"I wish I didn't know. The drywall is never going to be the same ag -- AGH!"

Hello, sudden blue-furred foot accessory.

"Keep that up and I'm going to get dizzy," Conner exclaimed. "Wow, cats and laser pointers. The entertainment gift that just keeps giving."

"Dude!" Conner blurted as Furrball faceplanted into the wall, then shook his head when the cat seemed to be okay. "With pets like these, who needs cartoons?"
