Fourth Floor Common Room --- Morning

Since she didn't have classes today, Gwynn was sitting on the couch in the common room with a notebook and markers. She appeared to be making several designs of things in her notebook. Anyone who happened to look over her shoulder would see the following things scrawled in her notebook:

Introduction to 21st Century Popular Culture

...Practice asking each other on dates... ...he seems terse and cranky... needs a sign to let people know since he doesn't want people asking him out...

Also in the notebook appeared to be different versions of the sign she was talking about.

Do not ask me out for I am terse and cranky

That was her favorite one.

"Whoa. That's kinda harsh, bra," Jude said, padding into the common room with a yawn, glancing down at the notebook as he headed for the kitchenette.

"Who said what?" Jude blinked, poking around in the fridge, glass in hand. "It's like, before noon. I need simple sentences."

Billy came in and wasn't intending to read over her shoulder, but the red ink stood out.

"Fair enough I won't ask you out." he said, smirking.

"Oh, so you're not terse and cranky? Because it's okay if you are I respect that in a person." he said, still smirking. He went to find cereal or something in the cabinets.

"I used to be." he said, realizing with a start that he hadn't been since he got there. Well, cranky anyway.

"School of hard knocks." Billy quoted one of the dreadnocks. Some people's lives make 'em soft. Some people's lives make 'em hard. He forgot which one said it. Hell he'd always had trouble remembering which was which personality wise.

"Something a friend of one of my foster parents used to say. Some people's lives make 'em soft. Some people's lives make 'em hard. Mine's leaned quite a bit to the latter."

"Their point was, it was better to be hard than soft." he shrugged. "Some of my foster parents weren't nearly as cynical."
