First Floor Garage, Tuesday Evening

Dressed in a pair of old denim overalls and t-shirt, Sam sat on the floor next to her motorcycle/swoop bike, surrounded by many, many scavenged, rigged, and purchased parts, her tool box, and the schematics, which she'd reclaimed from the Danger Room Shop once the garage renovations were complete.

Today was all about the power source. Gasoline and combustion engines were so very twentieth century.

Sam's laughter prompted Jack to laughter of his own as he picked up another gear to clean. "People don't spread it around, I think thet don't want you to get a big head. But I figured it out on my own."

"It might have," he conceded smugly. "But only a little bit."

"You don't believe me," he said sadly. "I'm hurt." But he didn't look it, eyes sparkling as he poked her in the ribs. "What can I possibly do to convince you of the esteem, no, the awe, I hold you in?"

"Pity." He swapped the clean gear for another dirty part and started rubbing it. "I was kind of looking forward to it."

"My shower has our names on it when we're finished here, and I always keep my promises." Jack frowned at the space where the gear had so briefly been. "Okay, why did that happen? Too small? Or the wrong shape?"

"Am I distracting you?" he asked as he set the clean part next to Sam's elbow and reached for another dirty one. "I can go, or be quiet, if you want."

"I was hoping you'd say that." Jack finished the last of the bits and started arranging them in order of size, smallest to largest. "Because this is fascinating. I've never been part of building anything before."

"I'm not sure Lego actually counts as building something. But you're right." He fell silent, trailing his finger across the metal teeth of the gears. "It is soothing. I can see why you like it."

"Yup, and absolutely." Jack shifted over and studied the space, then reached for the gear, slipping it into place. "I wouldn't miss a ride on this for the world." He lifted his hand away cautiously to see if it would stay.

He was ridiculously pleased, and it probably showed when he grinned at her. "Not quite, I don't think. I just have clever hands," he said and wiggled his fingers at her. "But I'd like to learn."

"I want, definitely. And I'm going to have to come up with something really good to thank you." He leaned over, pausing long enough to say, "This will have to do for the moment," and kissed her deeply.

"For a start," Jack promised, slightly breathless and entirely enthralled by Sam. "I was right, you know, you are incredibly, amazingly sexy. You always are, but there's something about you down here that's irresistible."
