Fourth Floor Hallway [Thursday, late afternoon]

'No class' boredom has struck again. As it does.

It's a little too quiet, so Mac is sitting crosslegged outside her doorway in the middle of the fourth floor corridor with her beanbag and a thermos of hot chocolate, playing solitaire.

She's ready to coerce passers by into keeping her company.

"Right now, solitaire." Mac fiddled with the cards in front of her, lining them all up. "I totally suck though and this is never going to work."

"You know any good card games by any chance?"

"Uh the card games I can play have names like Crazy8sMagic 8s and BSMerlin's Beard. I can teach you how to play magic eights. It's fairly easy."

Mac grinned and nodded, "Sounds like a good start to me. Easy is always good."

"Oh, hey, you want hot chocolate?" she asked pulling the thermos from down beside her beanbag. "I have spare mugs in my room if you do."

"Oooh I like anything that has the word chocolate in it." Lavender grinned and began shufflign the cards.

"It's all vegan though, so it's not really chocolate. It's soy and other things that make it resemble actual chocolate." Mac got up anyway, and went into her room, returning a few seconds later with a large yellow mug. "Still, it's better than nothing."

Lavender made a nervous face. "Well, can't hurt to try it."

Mac poured her a mug, and held it out towards her. "Really, it's not as bad as it sounds. It's probably better than the stuff the supply in the cafeteria at this school."

"You know, I haven't had cafeteria food yet." She took a sip. "This is pretty good."

"I'd keep it that way if I were you," Mac advised. "When and if you do, I'd stick to the salad. They just can't screw that up."

Mac flopped back down onto her beanbag and picked up her own mug. "So I never did see you to ask. How did it go with Briar?"

Lavender blushed and looked at her mug. "It went... well." She looked up and grinned at Mac.

Mac grinned broadly, "Well that's great, you think you'll go out with him again?"

Lavender grinned. "I think so. Yeah."

"That's a good start," Mac said, putting her mug down on the floor and picking up the cards to start dealing. "He's one of the new people I haven't yet met, so I can't really offer any input."

"I think he's only a freshman. So he's like two years younger than me. And, honestly, I still don't know that much about him. But there's..." Lavender groped for the word, grinning. "Chemistry."

"That's the important thing," Mac said nodding. "Two years isn't that much really, and the getting to know them is what the dating is for... or so I hear anyway."

She fiddled with the cards a couple of moments longer. "So, how many am I dealing us each?"

"Five cards each" Lavender answered.

"You excited about tomorrow?" she asked in a teasing voice.

Mac nodded, and starting dealing out the cards between them. "At the moment, nervous is eclipsing excited in my head, but... yeah. I kinda am."

"Nervous is natural. As uh, you saw with me-- but don't let it ruin the fun part." She said picking up her hand.

"I'll do my best." Mac assured her, also picking up her hand. "I'm hoping the nervous will evapourate magically on the night. That would be handy." She looked down at her hand, then back at Lavender, "Now what happens?"

"With the cards or with the dates?" Lavender teased.

Mac laughed and tapped her cards, "What do we do with these. I do actually know what to do with a date."

"Play a card that matches the rank or suit of that card." She pointed to the discard pile. "Then why aren't you letting yourself be a little more giddy? Or are you not the giddy type?" Lavender eyed Mac as if trying to decide.
