5th floor common room, close to lunchtime

After a handwavey and modded with permission trip to Luke's to pick up a special order, Willow was prepared. She set out apples, french toast made out of challah, honey, honeycakes, fruit salad, bagels and lox, and pomegranates. There were also pots of coffee and tea.

She then hung up a sign that said "Happy New Year"

Sure this wasn't completely traditional in terms of the timing and handling of things, but Willow felt that it was better to get the idea out there than be a stickler for details.

She sat at a table with a paring knife, a wet paper towel, and a bowl, and started to work on getting some pomegranate seeds.

After Jamie left, Marie took a shower, got dressed and wandered down to the common room.

"Morning, Willow," she greeted brightly. "What's going on?"

"Hey, Marie. It's Rosh Hashanah," Willow said. "Jewish New Year. I thought it'd be nice to celebrate with food, which is the traditional celebration of both my people and the people of Fandom."

"Well, happy new year," Marie said. "Do you need help with anything?"

"I'd like pomegranates that are easier to seed," Willow said. "But barring a spell to make that possible I don't think so."

Then she looked thoughtful since, hey, why not try to come up with a spell to do that?

"How about if I just grab a knife and help you," Marie suggested.

"That works too," Willow said. "Have some apples and honey, too. That way you have a sweet new year."

"Is that what that signifies?" Marie asked. "Does all the food have meaning?"

She grabbed a knife from the drawer and sat down to help Willow. She glanced at her gloves and, afraid of ruining them, decided to take them off while she worked.

"Good call," Willow said, nodding at the gloves. "This stuff stains like woah. And yeah, this is all meaningful. Apples and honey are for a sweet new year. Same with a challah loaf which is usually round, but since it's breakfast I went for french toast. And you're supposed to eat a fruit that you haven't eaten yet this season, thus the pomegranates."

"Wow, that's really neat," Marie said as she started working with the pomegranates. "And it was really nice of you to decide to share this with everyone."

"Well I know there's other Jewish students here so I figured they might like a little something," Willow said. "And why not share with friends? Besides, this way people get to see that there's all kinds of holidays, some of which are very yummy."

"Good call," Marie said. "Did you and Peter have a nice time on your date last night?"

Willow had a quietly pleased smile on her face. "He actually studied Jewish stuff! All on his own! I didn't even know he was doing that!"

"Aw, that's so sweet!" Marie exclaimed.

"Oh! Jamie had a problem with his room last night, so I let him sleep in your bed," she said. "I changed the sheets and everything. I didn't think you'd mind."

"Not at all," Willow said. She gave Marie a sly look. "Anything snuggly going on?"

Marie blushed. "No, not really," she said. "He let me paint his nails though."

"Oh how sweet!" Willow said. "What color?"

"Silver," Marie said. "I told him it was gray."

"That would actually be a good color on him," Willow said.

Marie nodded. "It turned out pretty nice."

"So things there might be termed to be going well?" Willow asked. "Should we be doing a happy dance?"

"We could definitely do a happy dance," Marie agreed with a smile.

Willow did a little wriggle in her seat. "Woohoo! Yay you guys! I'm quite pleased."

Marie grinned. "We really need to think about going shopping for homecoming dresses," she reminded Willow.

"We so do," Willow said with a vigorous nod. "Peter and I are, in fact, going and oh my God the pressure of finding a good dress when you're dating a guy who's used to girls who know how to act at balls."

"You'll be fine," Marie assured her. "Peter likes you. And I'm fairly certain that Fandom High's Homecoming will not be anything like a fancy ball."
