Outside the Dorms, Tuesday Morning

It was fifty-three degrees out, with a projected high of sixty-six, and today was one of the last days of November, so Janet was outside, enjoying the good weather while it lasted. She'd spread a blanket out, and was leaning back against a tree reading.

OOC: Open for random bothering of the wee cranky one.

In the morning was incidentally when Buffy returned, hauling two large suitcases with her. She beamed and waved hi to Janet when she spotted her. "Hey! How're you doing?"

Janet grinned at Buffy and closed her book. "Pretty good so far. How was your trip?"

"I got two coats! And boots!" Buffy said proudly, then she made a face. "And a lecture from mom, but that's not important."

"Lectures. Ugh. I got a couple of those this weekend too." Janet shook her head. "We can just ignore them and focus on the new purchases instead, right?"

OOC: Lunch time! Back in an hour!

"Totally!" Buffy bounced.

ooc: okidok!

"Has anyone ever told you that no human being can sustain that level of cheerfulness permanently?" asked Janet, straightening. "Also, would you like to show off your stuff?"

Buffy grinned. "Yes. Often. Fie I say on to them."

She rearranged her suitcases so one was on top of the other. She opened the top one. "Come see very pretty and yet practical clothing!"

Billy, in his continuing quest to stave off Holiday Blues, and also because it was such a nice day out, decided to see if he could cartwheel across the entire quad without getting dizzy. he didn't quite make it.

"Are you feeling all right?" asked Janet, frowning with concern.

OOC: Dude, so did not get the ping via email, darn it. But I'm here now!

Billy lay still on the grass for a moment as the world spun above him. "Yeah, yeah fine. Just very dizzy."

"That might not have been the most sensible thing to do," said Janet. "Maybe you should stay in one place for a few minutes?"

"That's the plan." Billy said. "I wanted to see how far i could go before I got dizzy. and I found out."

"You didn't hit your head at all, did you?" asked Janet. "Any nausea?"

"No I just sort of, flopped down on my back here." Billy said. "And, no, no nausea. I've never been prone to motion sickness. good thing too."

"I didn't see all of it that clearly," said Janet, setting her book down next to her, and shifting to lay on her stomach, her legs kicking idly in the air. "But vomiting on the grass would be bad. I'd have to agree."

Billy chuckled. "Yeah that and, a ninja who got sick every time he did a flip? That would suck."

"You're a ninja?" Janet's voice was lightly curious, though not as skeptical as she'd have been before starting at this school. "Sounds like an interesting hobby."

"Typically it's not a hobby." Billy said. "For everyone who trained me it was a way of life. I guess these days for me, it is closer to a hobby I guess though." he rolled up the sleeve of his shirt looking at the tatoo.

It resmbled a sort of morse code of long and short lines in red ink on his right forearm.

ooc: thought I still had the good icon with a pic of it. I were wrong.

Janet glanced over and studied the design. "I can honestly say that I know very little about the lifestyle. You'll have to enlighten me," she said. "So is it me, or have we had Covington's class together all semester and not chatted once?"

OOC: Hee, no big! *reposts*

"You know I think you're right." Billy realized. "I'm not always the most sociable of people." he supposed. "I'm Billy, nice to meet you."

"Janet Fraiser," said Janet, grinning. "I get a little caught up in my independent study projects these days and spend most of my time shut up in my dorm room." She shrugged. "Kind of dorky of me, I know."

"Nothing wrong with dorkiness." Billy said. "What do you study?" He was attempting in his mind to formulate some kind of comprehensive explanation of the `Ninja Way of Life`.

"Biochemistry, physiology, and genetics primarily." Janet shrugged. "Just about anything I can get my hands on that covers those subjects. I ended up exhausting the school library's books after last year, and my bookshelves are starting to bow under the weight of the scientific journal subscriptions."

"Wow," Billy said, impressed. "That's some heavy stuff. Please don't go into cloning."

"Uh--" Janet spread her hands and looked vaguely sheepish. "It's really a very interesting field, you know."

"It...well it kind of wigs me out." he admitted. "Don't mind me i'm a layman. But I kinda agree with that guy in that Dinosaur movie. Just beacause you can do something, doesn't mean that you should do something."

A layman who's seen just what cloning can do and it ain't good.

"There are a whole host of ethical concerns about the field," agreed Janet, who could go deeply into what those ethical concerns were. "I think anyone who's even remotely interested in the field needs to begin with a study of the ethics involved, because, frankly, there really are potentials for abuse that need to be curbed. I feel pretty strongly about the issue myself."

OOC: Heh, that's a beautiful thing to bring up, given that cloning's a big thing in both our canons, IIRC. And also that Janet's a clone, though that's not commonly known. I love this conversation!

The world by now had stopped spinning quite as fast, so Billy shifted position so he could look at her more easily. And he tried to separate what he could, and couldnt' tell her in his brain. It wasn't easy.

"I'll admit there could maybe be benefits, but...yeah there's ethical things involved. My worry is..." he blew out a breath trying to figure out how to say this. "With that kind of power, the temptation to use it, for...personal...urgh." he gave up. "You know what i mean?" he asked hopefully.

ooc: OMG I didn't know that! Hah!

"Oh, believe me," said Janet fervently. "I know exactly what you mean. I have no desire to see the technology abused."

"I've heard that Albert Einstein wished he could uninvent the Nuclear bomb."

ooc: bedtime!

"The man was not just a genius for his book smarts," said Janet.

OOC: Nearly mine too! We can probably FTB here, I'd say.
