Dorm Roof, Late Tuesday Night

Another invasion come and gone, and this time Anders got to be kind of useful. What's a guy to do but brood and smoke on the roof, after all that?

So yep, that would be exactly what Anders was doing, all the while composing a letter to Kara in his head. He also had his Pyramid ball with him, and was bouncing it around in between drags.

Fun times.

Billy needed air. that would help him sleep. yes. So it was he mounted the stairs to the roof and found someone already there.

On the way back from the mainland, Bel tried to wrestle the demon under control. He was filled with horror and regret over what he'd done, and didn't want to face Phoebe like that. So he went to the roof instead, shimmering there still in demon form. It took a few minutes, but he managed to turn himself back into his human self. He shakily lit up a cigarette before he noticed that Anders was on the roof as well. Control slipped away again. Prey.

"Billy. Hey, man," Anders said absently. "What's up?"

After his conversation with Billy, Anders must have gone through an entire pack of cigarettes. He was just starting on the second pack when he heard someone lighting up nearby.

Hmm. No door opening, no footsteps . . .

"Hey, Bel."

"Evening," Bel said, sizing Anders up. "How's it going?"

Cally hit the roof and was completely unsurprised to find Anders.

"So, you gonna finally talk to me, you motherfrakker?"

"Just fine," Anders said evenly. "How's life out of the closet?"

Anders didn't turn around right away. "Maybe," he said, exhaling a stream of smoke very deliberately. "But that's not the best way to start a conversation, is it now?"

"Still hoping for that ass-kicking?" Bel growled.

"I like the cold. It's kind of . . . refreshing," Anders replied. "Air's nicer here than it was back home, seems like. Must be the island thing. Delphi was a pretty big city."

He laughed briefly. "Yeah, okay, so I'm brooding. Not sure what about, it just seemed like the thing to do."

"What if I am?" Anders spread his arms, challengingly. "You in the mood to dish it out?"

"What's it to you?" asked Anders. "It's not like I don't know what you think of me. So why should I put extra effort into being nice?"

Anders made a half-mocking tsk-ing noise. "It's never a good time with you, seems like. What's crawled up your ass this time?"

Anders flicked the ash off his cigarette so hard he knocked half the tobacco out of it, and swore under his breath. "I heard, you know. About what you said to Bel over Thanksgiving about me."

Billy gave a short laugh. "Yeah. I'm sulking brooding too."

Bel pushed Anders's shoulder, hard. "Watch it," he said.

"That you just assume I'm going to get hurt!" Anders blurted out. "Like I don't know what I'm doing or something! Lords, do you really think I'm that stupid?"

Anders had been prepared for that and braced himself against the impact. Reaching up and grabbing Bel's wrist, he asked, "Seriously, man, what is your deal tonight?"

"Just a little riled up, I guess," Bel said, yanking his wrist free. "What's the matter, thought you liked me like that."

"Yeah? Anything on your mind? I'm getting all depressed about Christmas coming up, and I'm not even from this planet. How do you guys deal with it every year?"

He paused. "Um. You are from here, right? I can't remember."
