The gym, Friday morning

Aeryn's at the gym pretty early today. She's been slacking a little lately, and every once in a while you just really need to hit something just because. She goes to get the gloves from the locker, leaves them on the mat where Rory could see them, and then starts hitting the bag kind of hard as a warmup while she waits.

She nods, still not entirely sure how she ended up agreeing to that. "Something tells me we'll manage to hit some sore spots, at least."

"You should do a turkey impression," Rory says, only half-kidding.

"Stick an umbrella in his chestpiece," Aeryn says, almost smiling.

"Seriously, bring tiny umbrellas. That's genius," she says. "I've got croissants and my clothes covered. Those should strike a few chords."

"Your clothes?"

"The dress I wore on Coruscant, a skirt I knew he liked, wearing my hair a certain way...." Rory says. "Appealing to Anakin's mental image of me and trying to bring up memories."

Aeryn had tried that with her mother, and it didn't work. Then again, Rory had a lot more room to move in this situation. "Should get through to him, one way or another," she says.

"I hope to make him throw things again," she says with a soft smile before hitting the bag once more.

"Just try to make sure it's soft things, like croissants," she advises, still watching Rory's form.

"He has yet to throw anything at me," she reminds Aeryn.

"True," she says, and pauses before saying, "I think I'm applying another situation to this one. It's changing the way I see things."

Rory just stops and looks at her. "Another situation?"

"My mother," Aeryn says, concentrating on the bag. "Similar situation. It didn't go as well as it could have."

Rory nods. "Oh." And she pauses, in case Aeryn wants to talk about it.

"When I say I kind of know what Luke's going through, I mean it," she says quietly. "There are differences, though. Anakin can't have repressed as much as she did. That's a good thing."

She furrows her brow a little. "Why do you say that?"

"I never got through to her," she says, swallowing a little, but otherwise showing no signs of emotion. "She held a weapon on me knowing full well who I was and nothing I said was ever going to make her think differently of me." She takes a breath and continues, "But Anakin didn't go there to kill Luke. He wanted Luke with him."

"Because his superior said so," Rory notes softly.

Aeryn shakes her head. "I don't believe that. I remember the look on his face when I told him my last assignment was supposed to be to kill refugee children. I know his reaction when we spoke of families. If there is part of him still in there, I do not believe that Anakin would be able to willingly kill his own son."

"If he'd stayed, we would be getting married and having children of our own. He wanted that," she says dully. "Anakin couldn't hurt his children, no. But Vader...."

"If he could kill someone who is a part of him, then I don't think there's any bringing him back," she insists. "I don't believe it."

"Luke does only have one hand now," she points out.

"After he said no," she says. "Anakin's not good with rejection. And he could have done more than just cut off his hand. He didn't."

Rory considers this. "But he still did it."

"I still don't believe he would have killed him," Aeryn says stubbornly. "I just can't."
