[The Roof, Wednesday Evening]

There was a break in the clouds in the evening so says my weather search, so Alec headed up to the roof. Despite the humidity, it was nice to be where he could see the town and the ocean beyond.

First sign of rain though and he'd be back inside before you could blink.

Other than Criminal Justice class yesterday -- and they had both been busy reviewing and so hadn't spoken -- Dean hadn't seen Alec since he'd left The Place Sunday evening.

He'd figured Alec had needed some space after being practically immobile for a week so he hadn't gone looking for him until now.

When he found him on the roof, he grinned and said, "Haven't seen you up here in a while."

"Yeah," Alec said with a smirk, shoving his hands further into his pockets. "Saw it wasn't raining, so I grabbed the opportunity."

"You'd think it would be colder too, considering it's December," Dean said. "How's the ribs doing?"

"Just fine," Alec said, pulling one hand out to place a palm against his own ribs, testing. "Feels pretty good, actually."

"That's good to hear," Dean said, moving closer and laying a hand over Alec's.

Alec blinked, spreading his fingers under Dean's just a little. "No kidding," he said, smirking faintly. "I like not hurting when I breathe."

"Yeah, being cooped up like that last week must've been driving you stir crazy," Dean observed, leaving his hand where it was.

"Just a little," Alec admitted, shrugging in a way that would've had him wincing a couple days ago.

Dean nodded. "Thought you might need some space after that." He paused. "I can go if you want."

Alec cocked his head a little, but didn't push Dean's hand away or move back. "If I didn't want to be bothered at all, I'd've gone to the cabins," he said, wondering what Dean was getting at.

Dean smiled a little. "I'll keep that in mind next time I'm looking for you when you don't want to be found."

"You seem to be able to find me no matter where I hide out," Alec noted dryly, oddly not disturbed by the idea.

"Yeah, well I'm stubborn and persistent," Dean said, then added, "And you usually show up at The Place eventually anyway."

The amusement he felt at Dean describing himself faded a little as he thought about that, the corner of his mouth twitching faintly. "Most of the time."

"Guess I just got tired of waiting this time."

"Need me for something?" Alec asked, curious. Not that he believed Dean wouldn't come looking for him just to make sure he was all right, but it wasn't as though they hadn't seen each other at all.

"Nothing important, just the usual," Dean told him with a shrug. "I just kinda got used to having you around all the time last week."

"You know, we're not really attached at the hip or anything," Alec teased.

Dean made a face. "Y'know, around here that's probably not something to joke about. Ya never know what weirdness Fandom's going to throw out next."

"You think that works? Seriously?" Alec looked dubious, then glanced up at the dark, still-cloudy sky. "If I ask for a million bucks, you think I'll get that too?"

"Stranger things have happened but generally I think bad things mentioned have a better chance of actually occurring than the good things."

"That makes no sense," Alec said flippantly. "Weird shit just happens on its own."

Dean shrugged. "Jinxes just seem to happen more often than wishes."

Alec eyed Dean and shook his head as he turned to look out at the dark. "Whatever, man. If you don't want to be attached to me, it's not going to happen, don't worry."

"Well not literal physical attached," Dean clarified. "Of the permenent kind. If we're talking more metaphorical attachment..."
