Third Floor Common Room, Saturday Afternoon

Dawn meant to be studying. She had a ton of work to do, after all, not the least of which was memorizing demon traps. So, her notebook was out, as were the handouts from Hunting, and she had a protractor, a ruler, and a pencil, and she had been practicing drawing the designs, right up to the point where she got hungry about ten minutes after she started working.

So now she was engaged in experimental food assembly--after doing some foraging, she grabbed an apple, a banana, some raisins and dried apricots, a couple of flour tortillas, a jar of crunchy peanut butter, and the container of marshmallow fluff. Kind of the Dawn take on burritos, but it probably wouldn't be fatal.

Joxer wandered down a floor, yawning a bit.

"Morning everyone," he said.

"You kinda missed morning, Joxer," Dawn informed him as she sliced up banana.

Joxer rubbed his face. "I did?" He looked around. "Oops."

"Long night of drunken debauchery and dancing girls?"

"Only in my drea... I think of no one but Kaylee!" Joxer said quickly.

Dawn grinned. "No, of course not. I was teasing. Did you sleep in?"

"I guess I must have," Joxer said. "I really need to figure out a way to tell time better."

"How do you tell time now?"

"By how high the sun is," Joxer said. "It's about the only way."

"Okay, this I can help you with," Dawn decided, pulling out her cell phone, "but your times are probably off anyway, right? Because we're at a different longitude than you're used to, and that makes a difference."

"...What's a longitude?" Joxer said.

"On a globe? The lines that go up and down? There's one for every hour of the day, so when it's 3 pm here, it's...later, in Greece."

"Oh, right," Joxer said. "The world is round. I keep forgetting that, sometimes."

"Oi. Joxer." Chad lifted a hand in greeting to his long-lost partner in heroing.

Joxer waved back at Chad. "We totally missed out the chance to be heroic together," he said.

"I know, man," Chad grunted. "What's up with that? Did ya at least get to be heroic on your own?"

"I took out about twelve of them," Joxer said, flexing. "Then I protected Kaylee all the next day."

"Twelve? Nice. I think I only got about nine..."

"That's more than Walter got," Joxer pointed out. "You did good, sidekick."

"Thanks," Chad held a thumbs-up, felt a very brief, smug satisfaction in having done better than Nadia's boyfriend. "I also pulled protector duty. Was a good weekend for heroing."

"Jude? Cute little skateboarding dude? His attempts to escape were kinda thwarted by a mud-puddle an' he broke his leg."
