Second Floor Common Room, Tuesday Morning

Because you can only live off of a holiday fruitcake for so long before you start to go insane, Anders had finally ransacked his fridge for the bacon and eggs he'd meant to have for breakfast yesterday, then dragged himself out of his room and into the common room. That took a little effort. Okay, a lot.

So now, armed with a small pot of coffee and more bacon and eggs than anyone should legally be allowed to eat at once (being ridiculously hungry always skewed his concept of proportions) he was leaning against the counter while he ate. The TV was tuned to some show about tricking out cars, which prompted Anders to start mulling over the possibility of tricking out his Glider some more. But there would be absolutely no chrome. No way.

Cally shrugged. "Like to think they're good people, though. Just... guess I'm not important to them."

Nadia could think of many, many more reasons that might have been involved, such as "maybe they got tired of Cally always feeling sorry for herself", but just kind of shrugged. "Who knows."

"And that was waaay too emo," Cally said. "Way to go, me."

Another shrug. "It was, kinda. People come and people go. That's just the way the world works."

"I'm kinda amazed you and Mac are still at school, actually," Cally said with a chuckle.

"Well, I tried leaving this summer, but that didn't work out so well."

"You defeated the curse," Cally said. "That's no small feat."

Curse? That was a bit much.

"Well, it did involve me randomly being away for a year and then coming back five days later,"

"Yeah, that... very sucky," Cally said. "But hey, could be worse. You coulda been gone five days and come back a year later."

"That would have been pretty bad, yeah."

"Or worse, you could've been gone one day, and come back five years later," Cally said.

"Okay, I get it, it could be worse. Now I'm never going to want to leave hte island again."

"My evil plan has worked, then," Cally said with a mock-cackle, tapping her fingers together.

"Except that I'll get over it soon enough, because Walter, Pip, Pippi and I are going on a boat trip."

"Oh," Cally said. "When ya doin' that?"

"At some handwavily time we haven't determined out of game, just yet. We'll be gone a couple of days, but back in time for the new semester, definitely."

"Oh, cool," Cally said. "I'll be here. As usual."

"You should try getting out for a bit. Take a road trip with someone, or something."

"Dunno anyone with a vehicle," Cally said. "Plus, you know, broke."

"In the starving and sleeping on the street sort of way?"

Well, hadn't that just cast a desparaging note on a good third of Nadia's entire life. "In the living on your wits and meeting people as opposed to hiding away from them kind of way."

"Well, put it like that, it's almost romanticised," Cally said. "But I got a feeling I'd starve and freeze to death just living by my wits."

Nadia shook her head, getting frustrated. "You're always doing that!"

"Doing what?" Cally said, confused.
