Fifth floor common room, Tuesday night

Nadia had not gotten around to meeting very many of the new students, but found herself in no hurry to do so, instead lazily lying about for most of the day, other than tracking down her new 'little sister' (who, ironically, she suspected was probably older than she was). That done, she was now hanging out in the common room, a plate of perfectly ordinary pumpkin empanadas cooling on a plate in the middle of the table while she watched a rerun of the second Galaxy Quest series and wondered at that Jane Doe actress.

Walter walked in, eyed the empanadas suspiciously, but took one anyway because it would be a severe insult to her cooking if he of all people passed it up.

"Hey. Have you met lots of new people today?"

"Nope," Nadia replied cheerfully. "Just my new little sib. You?"

"I met one of the new teachers and a couple of new students." And the teacher was hilarious. "And Pip is up and about."

"Yay for Pip! Maybe we can still get that boat trip in." Nadia leaned back to smile up at him. "Were any of the newbies interesting?"

Walter pecked her forehead and climbed over the back of the couch to sit next to her. "There was a guy who called me a mindless automaton, and a girl who wants to learn about villains. Really, it was Dr. Orpheus, the new teacher who was the most interesting."

"Doctor . . . who? And you're not a mindless automaton," said she who didn't know what that meant. "Unless you want to be one."

"Dr. Orpheus. He's teaching DAMM," Walter said with a straight face.

". . . A class on cursing?"

Walter laughed. "Dee aye em em," he said mimicking Dr. O. "Defense Against Malicious Magics." He couldn't do the blue glow, so didn't bother with the posing. "The teacher is hilarious. Although I don't think that's his intention."

"Yes we do. Oh, and one of them looks just like you by the way."

Walter stopped and turned around at that. "What?"

"One of the new people. Looks just like you. Only shorter..."

And less charming.

"Oh shit." That was likely to be his response for a while. He'd seen what happened with doppelgangers.

"I'm not kissing him." That was likely to be his second response for a while.

"I'm... Glad to hear it?"

"He doesn't look just like me. Does he?"

"His hair is longer, he's shorter... Doesn't dress as nicely. His shoes? Not shiny at all... And he just... Stands different. Other wise? Yeah, pretty much just like you."

...

Shit.

"One of us needs to wear a nametag, and I was here first, so not me."

"You have a super polite and friendly double," Cally said.

"Pippi was just telling me that." Oh shit.

He was going to get in all sorts of shit with this, wasn't he?

"He's cute," Cally said with a nod.

"I'm not kissing him!"

"...even if a bribe were involved?"

"See! I knew that would happen. No. I am not kissing my twin." Walter looked hopefully at her. "He doesn't look that much like me, does he?"

"Shorter and his hair's a bit different, but otherwise, exactly," Cally said.

"This is bad. Nadia needs to be warned before she pulls a Callisto."
