The Roof, Thursday Night

Cassie, still wearing her 'Cassie Lang: Agent of Shield' name tag, stepped out onto the roof for some brisk, fresh air.

She took a few deep breaths and stood there, thinking.

She'd found the dorm home for emo, without even being told.

Teddy needed to get out of his room. His morning of meeting new people had been interesting, but alone time would be nice about now too. He also went up to the roof to get some fresh air.

He froze when he noticed who else was up there, but didn't turn to leave. This was a public area, she wasn't going to chase him away.

Cassie turned to see who'd just come up, and instantly felt her heart beating faster.

"Come up here to throw me over the edge?"

"Oh yeah, because my being here is all about you," Teddy said, rolling his eyes. He walked over toward the ledge, keeping a good ten feet between them.

Cassie sighed. "We're gonna run into each other while here. We can't... get like this, every time."

Teddy took a seat on the ledge, facing out away from the building. "Yeah, what do you suggest we do then?"

"Look, you're the one who hates me, okay?" Cassie said, sitting down as well and peeling off her nametag. "You're the one with the problem."

"Being angry at you doesn't mean I hate you," Teddy snapped.

Cassie threw the nametag off the roof and sniffed. "I didn't want to do it," she said.

Teddy looked away. Being silent was better than yelling at her.

"How's Billy?" Cassie asked, trying to come up with some sort of topic.

Teddy flinched. "I don't know."

"You haven't heard from them at all?"

"I talked to him a few times right after I came back here, but nothing since then."

And they hadn't been good conversations.

"I'm sorry," Cassie said. "I... know how much it sucks not to hear from them."

"You haven't heard anything about them?"

"Not a word," Cassie said. "Not like they want to say anything to me, anyways." She sniffled.

Teddy sighed before scooting over to sit next to Cassie, putting his arm around her.

Cassie leaned her head against Teddy's shoulder. "I still want to be friends," she said, sniffling some more.

Teddy sucked at staying mad when people cried. He rested his head on Cassie's, giving her a reassuring squeeze. "So do I Cassie, so do I."

Cassie wiped at her eyes. "I just couldn't... I mean, I... Goliath..."

Teddy continued to hug Cassie. "This whole thing is screwed up. I just wish everything could be like before."

"Me too," Cassie said. "I want my friends back. I want... I keep losing everyone."

Join the club, Teddy thought. He nudged Cassie. "Hey, things will get better, okay?"

"Okay," Cassie said. "I'm... really glad I didn't accidently shrink on you." She wiped at her eyes some more.

Teddy grinned. "I still have issues with that too. Nothing sucks more than being so embarrassed you change color to match the background."
