Dorm Roof, Tuesday Night

Anders was pacing back and forth across the roof, leaving a trail of cigarette butts behind him. After his talk with Bridge this afternoon, and going to the clinic with Parker this evening to check up on Cally, it was safe to say that he was pretty agitated.

Hence the chain smoking.

Two of the most important people in his life, one stripped of his powers and the other horribly beaten. And there wasn't a damn thing Anders could have done to stop either of those things from happening.

He flicked a dwindling cigarette butt -- the last one in this pack -- over the edge of the roof and watched it fall into the darkness, then opened a fresh pack and lit up again.

His lungs were going to hate him in the morning, but it seemed like a better alternative than breaking his hand trying to hit things, at least.

After sitting in her room for a little while and thinking about what Marty had said, Tori made her way up to the roof, concerned for her roommate and wondering where she was at this time of the night.

Anders turned mid-pace and stubbed out his cigarette when he saw the newcomer.

"Hey," he said. "Just as a warning, the roof is officially a brooding zone tonight."

"Hi." Tori managed a small smile. "That's fine by me." Her smile disappeared as her thoughts went back to Angela.

"Got something to brood about tonight too, huh?" asked Anders. "Roof's good for brooding with company."

"I do." Tori shook her head. "Seems to be the right place, at the moment. I'm Tori, by the way."

"Anders. Um . . . Sam Anders," he said, not quite sure why he'd gone ahead and said that. He blamed it on his agitated mental state, but he didn't think she was the type of person to use his first name mockingly. "My best friend lost his powers and my ex is in the clinic. Not my best news day. What's going on with you?"

"My roommate, Angela Chase, hasn't come back to the room and her boyfriend came by looking for her. He hasn't seen her all day and I'm worried about her." Tori explained. She nodded. "I heard about Cally from my friend, her roommate and I talked to Bridge earlier and found out what happened to him." Tori grimaced. "I can't believe that happened. I'm sorry." She didn't know Cally first hand but she did know Bridge, and she felt terrible and somewhat helpless. And she really hoped Angela would reappear, come back soon.

"Wait, what? Angela's missing too, now?" Now alarmed and very worried, Anders reached up and twisted both hands into his hair. "Okay, this has officially gone way beyond Not Cool. How much more is going to happen to my friends today?"

"Yeah." Tori nodded slightly. She too was wondering what else might happen. "I don't know why this all has happened but I don't like it one bit."

Anders was wondering how it could possibly get worse, but he didn't want to jinx it -- unless just by wondering he'd already done that. "Give me another zombie or troll invasion any day," he said in frustration. "But this frakking mysterious stuff is driving me crazy and I don't know what to go after to stop it."

Tori agreed with Anders. "An invasion sounds good right about now." She nodded, knowing how he was feeling. "I don't know what to do. I feel really... helpless." Tori admitted.

"Me too. I hate it," Anders added forcefully. "Nobody has any clues? At all?"

"As do I." Tori agreed. "I haven't heard anything, whatsoever. If there are any clues, nobody's found them yet." She frowned.

"But we should try, or something." Anders turned and kicked at a pebble. "Who knows what's going to happen next? If somebody else is going to get hurt? Do we just stand by and wait for it to happen?"

"You're right, we should." Tori was all for that. "I don't want to just let something happen, definitely not. But what can we do right now?" She didn't have anything resembling a plan at the moment.

"Just keep an eye out, I guess," Anders said with a sigh. "I don't know. I'm no strategist, I'm just a dumb jock."

"I guess that's all we can do for now." Tori sighed. "I'm no strategist either." Though she did have a bit of experience with plans when she was a ranger. But, she had more information then.

Tori smiled slightly, knowing he wasn't a dumb jock but she knew he was feeling helpless, as was she.

"Guess we'll have to do that," Anders said, looking glum. "It's the least we can do."

Tori nodded, biting her lip in worry. She ran a hand through her hair. "I will definitely let you know if I see anything."

"Thanks. Fair's fair, so I'll do the same," Anders said with a brief smile.

"Anytime." Tori offered a small smile. "Good. Maybe we'll find something." Hopefully.
