Dorm Hallways, Monday Evening - Rikku On Patrol

The last thing Rikku actually wanted was to run into more people and have to apologize for her crazy behavior this past weekend - although everybody had been really nice about it so far, which was great, but it was still mortifying, to say the least. But she had to, so no use complaining about it.

So Rikku was wandering the hallways, popping her head into the common rooms, and generally lurking in the stairwells, trying to catch a random glimpse of anybody she might need to talk to.

It would really help if she knew more people's names. In the meantime, she'd just keep looking.

It took a him a while, but Balthier finally noticed that he was missing his keys. They were rather important, being his set of keys to the Strahl and all. He was rather purterbed that they had gone missing.

He looked familiar, but then, everybody looked a little different when you were their height again, so she wasn't sure. It'd help if he were talking - he had a kinda neat accent. Right. So.

She took a deep breath and waved at him. "Hi there!" And then, the part she hated. "Are you - do you happen to - I mean, are you missing anything?"

He raised his eyebrows in surprise and then frowned at the blond girl. "As a matter a fact, I am." He crossed his arms and looked at her sternly. "You wouldn't happen to know anything about that would you?"

Rikku fidgeted nervously. "Um, maybe? I mean." Deep breath. Own up. "Yeah, it was. That was me. And I'm really sorry about that and I didn't mean to, well. I did mean to, because I took it, but I mean I wasn't exactly ... me. But I'm still very sorry." She hoped her voice wasn't squeaking.

Balthier sighed and rolled his eyes, pulling out a hand from his crossed arms, holding it out in front of her. Really, he had the worst luck with blondes. "All right, give them here."

She stopped fidgeting long enough to give him a look. "I said I was sorry. You don't have to be mean, you know."

She found the plastic baggie marked pmuhta yllahd and held it out to him. "It's all here. I mean, it should be. And I guess you've got every right to be -"

She stared at the package. How on earth had she missed that before?!

"Is that a chocobo?!"

"Ah... yes, actually it is." He looked confused and held the small toy keychain in front of her. "You actually know what this is? Do you have these where you come from?" This could be interesting...

Rikku nodded, still confused. "You have chocobos, too? Are you - you're not from Spira, are you?"

No way was he an Al Bhed. Was he a Yevonite? And if so, one of the Al-Bhed-Haters? This could get ugly.

"Spira?" He raised an eyebrow. "Ahh, no. Ivalice. And yes we have Chocobos. Aside from walking it's the only ground transportation available."

Rikku nodded, excited. "Yeah! You can rent them from Rin if you want to get across the Highroad faster. And the Chocobo Knights used to ride them into battle."

She considered. "But ... I don't get it. I've never heard of Ivalice."

"Well then, consider us even. I've never heard of Spira." He shrugged and stuffed his keys into his saddlebagspockets. "Odd, there are some countries that had Chocobo knights as well, but the old way has nearly been abandoned in favor of air ships."

Rikku stared at him for a moment. "Old ways? How old? We had the Chocobo Knights until a few months ago. And we had an airship, but just one, and it was ancient, a ruin, we couldn't believe it worked."

"You don't think ..." She bit her lip. "This Ivalice, has it always been called Ivalice?"

Balthier had a feeling he knew where he small, sun bleached mind was going. "Yes, our history goes back a very long time. And there were Chocobo knights really only in the smaller less technologically advanced countries. Airships however, have been around for decades if not at centuries."
