By the Front gates - Thursday 10:30ish [1-25-07]

Lana was out on time, stretching and warming up, wondering if Conner was going to show up. She wouldn't blame him if he didn't.

Conner showed up right on time, looking for the most part like he wasn't bothered by what had happened over the weekend. "Hey, Lana!"

"Hey, Connor." Lana smiled at him, still blushing a bit. "I'm glad you came."

"Maybe... yes? I was pretty mean to you," Lana said. "I mean, I hoped you'd come, but I wouldn't have blamed you if you hadn't."

"You were totally the opposite of mean," Conner replied. "Seriously, this is no big deal. Sure, it's a little weird, but we'll get over it, right?"

"We will," Lana said firmly. "Probably even be able to laugh about it at some point. And in the meantime, running is always good."

"We'll be able to laugh about it sooner than you think, probably," Conner assured her. He bent down to tie his shoelaces and stood up. "Ready? Promise I won't cheat."

"Ready," she said and started off at a nice steady pace. "It will feel good to run, burn off some of the negative energy, you know?"

"Get the frustration out, yeah." Conner nodded. "Believe me, I'm really familiar with that feeling."

He fell silent for a few paces before asking, "So, um, how did your weekend turn out, anyway?"

"Badly," Lana said. "I behaved... like I did with you all weekend, in front of Jim a lot of the time. It got pretty ugly. Thus the not wanting to really see people who might really not want to see me."

She ran a bit in silence herself before adding. "But it seems like most everyone feels that way, so..."

"Yeah, you're so not the only one. There's enough people who did embarrassing things over the weekend that I don't think anyone can really judge, you know?" Conner looked over at her and smiled. "'sides, I was myself and I almost would've . . . you know . . . with you. Which makes me the jerk."

"What?" Lana asked, trying to make light of it. "You can't claim to have been overwhelmed by my beauty?"

She bit her lip. "If I wasn't involved with somebody else I'd certainly be interested in... well... you know. Though I don't know if that makes things better or worse."

"Me neither," Conner said thoughtfully. "And hey the last time I tried to make the overwhelmed by beauty claim, I got smacked for it. So I try to be careful about that."

"Hey, I may be dumb sometimes, but I'm not crazy," Conner said, holding his hands up. "I wouldn't say anything about it to him, if it might make things hard on you. But I'd be lying if I said I didn't enjoy it."

"On three," Lana said. "One, two, three!" She took off as fast as she could, knowing she couldn't beat him, but enjoying the feel of the strain on her body.
