First floor lobby, Monday after classes

Jude had decided that it was too cold to skateboard outside.

Thus, skateboarding inside.

Besides, he had an audience. He had named the big coconut on the left Mongo. The little one was Caitlin. The two that kept bumping into everything were Little Jude and Jude Jr. It went on.

Henry was going back up to his room after classes, but the second he entered the lobby, he stopped.
And stared.
"What on earth..?"

"Hey, dude," Jude greeted him mellowly, zooming across the tile.

That couldn't be English. To be completely honest, Henry wasn't sure that Jude was human, zooming around like that.
"Hello." Henry responded, with a little wave. "What exactly are you doing?"

"180 ollie with a kickflip," Jude replied promptly, doing just that before skidding to a halt in front of Henry. "Skateboarding, dude."

Henry crouched down and peered at the board. "Interesting! Is it an effective means of transportation, or an amusement?"

"Both! I mean, a longboard's better for Point A to Point B stuff, but I prefer the smaller board for the agility and responsiveness it offers."

Ha! Henry grinned and stood back up. How very fun! "You're quite agile."

"Thanks, bro," Jude replied, beaming happily.

Henry stuck out his hand. "Henry Jekyll. It's a pleasure to meet you."

Jude looked at the hand. Jude, instead of shaking, gave him a low-five. "Jude Lizowski. Same t' you."

Wha? Did Jude just hit him? Henry does a quick survey, and knows that there's no malice whatsoever in the situation. "Ah, yes..." He's a little bewildered, but ends up laughing.

Jude gave him the mellow how-you-doin' fingers. "Bro, you totally need to loosen up. When're you from?"

"The year eighteen hundred and eighty-six, in London." Henry responded. What did they call his time period again..? "The Victorian Age."

Jude let one eye droop a little closed as he processed and stored this information. Finally he nodded. "Awesome, bro. That would totally explain why you don't know what a skateboard is. Which totally happens waaaaay too much."

"I think so," he said thoughtfully. "Don't know, really. Like, last thirty years maybe?"
