Second floor common room: Saturday Bed Time

The second floor common room looked more like nap time at a pre-school than the coolest common room in the dorms. That would be because there were blankets, pillows, the cushions from the couches and some foam pads set out around the room, forming comfy nests for wee tiny people to curl up in and sleep.

Jack - who was still wearing his kitty ears and had whiskers drawn on his cheeks - was there to tuck Emma in, but he'd be happy to do the same for any wee tiny people who wanted to spend the night.

Jack gave in to the irresistible urge to ruffle his hair. "Well, thanks," he said, grinning right back. "So what's next on the agenda after vent climbing?"

"I... dunno," the Doctor said. "Have any ideas?"

"Hmmm." Jack frowned down at the floor, thinking, absently peeling the banana and munching on it. "Well, I know it's boring, but have you eaten something besides bananas?"

"Jelly babies, too!" the Doctor said.

The Doctor seemed happy with jelly babies and bananas as food, so Jack wasn't going to argue. "Were they good?"

"Fantastic!" the Doctor said.

"Of course. What else would they be," Jack laughed. "And that's all you need to keep you going?"

"Well, maaaaaaaybe," the Doctor said. "You gonna make me dinner?"

"Sure." Jack stood up and held out his hand. "Want to go see what's in the kitchen?"

"Yes please," the Doctor said.

Jack led the way to the kitchen, which proved to have an interesting assortment of leftovers and staples and he realised he had no clue what kids ate. "Do you like eggs?"

"Eggs are good. Full of protein," the Doctor said. "I like 'em scrambled!"

"Now those I can do." Jack grabbed a couple of eggs, the milk, and a bowl, and started cracking eggs. "Do you want them with cheese?"

"Cheese is good. Full of calcium!"

He was like a walking nutrition advertisement.

He really was, in an adorable way.

Jack grinned and added cheese. "You're very health conscious," he observed, putting the fry pan on the stove to warm.

"Got to keep up my 'tabolism," the Doctor said. "Got two hearts, you know."

"Two hearts?" Okay, Jack was pretty sure he hadn't known that. "Is that why you're always so," hyper, manic, "umm, energetic?"

The mix was poured into the pan, and he stirred it, watching it carefully so it wouldn't burn.

"Yis!" the Doctor said. "I'm runnin' on eight cylinders!"

So much suddenly made sense and Jack had to chuckle. "That means you need to keep your strength up. And that means," he prodded the eggs, "dinner, which will be another few minutes."

The Doctor was impatient, at times. "But I want it nooooooooow."

This is Jack facepalming with the hand holding the spatula and really hoping the Doctor remembered this come grading time. "It's still squishy. Do you like squishy eggs?"

"...no," the Doctor said. "Why's it taking so long? A sonic frying pan would have this done soooooo fast!"

"I don't have a sonic frying pan. I only have this one." He poked the eggs again, decided they were close enough, and left them to finish while he went hunting for a plate. "Where do you get a sonic frying pan, anyway?"

"You make one, silly," the Doctor said.

Jack slanted a considering look the Doctor's way. "Maybe you make one, but that's a bit beyond me," he said, sliding the eggs onto a plate. "There you go. Regular old un-sonic eggs, but they have cheese."

He offered the plate to the Doctor.
