La Salle: After Classes

After getting done with her classes Mel headed over to the dueling area and pulled out her axe really scythe and went through a couple of test moves as she waited for Buffy to show up.

After supplying her roommates with ice cream, Buffy grabbed her favorite shiny sharp souvenir and went down to the Salle to compare shiny sharpness with Mel.

"Hi Mel!"

"Hey Buff!" Mel said taking a final practice swipe. "Want to see my favorite plaything?"

"Definitely," Buffy nodded eagerly, walking up to her, her own axe-thing hanging down by her side.

Mel grinned and tossed her scythe towards Buffy. "Think Fast."

Buffy's free hand went up and she caught it mid air, spinning it around as she took a step backwards to get her balance back. "Ooooh!" She dropped the Reaver weapon to have a better look at the scythe. She slashed it at the air a couple of times and then pretended to stake a vampire with it. "...I am so jealous right now you have no idea."

"It's supposed to be pretty old," Mel said taking a peep of the reaver weapon. "The guy who gave it to me said that it was used by the last slayer before I was called."

"Really?" Buffy looked down at the weapon, poking carefully at it with her free hand. "It doesn't really look old."

"Well the last slayer before me was over 200 years ago," Mel replied picking up the reaver axe and hefting it in her hand. "I don't remember reading about it before then from the watcher journal. Or ever actually. It's weird though because when I pick it up I... I don't know. Just feels like it belongs to me. Y'know?"

Buffy nodded. She felt it too. "I know what you mean." She sliced the air again. "Why did it take 200 years before you were called? I mean, usually when one slayer dies another is called."

"Apparently the last slayer banished all demons from the world," Mel replied. "There wasn't a need for a slayer until the vampires came back."

"Huh." Buffy thought about that. "Must've been a nice 200 years. Kinda sucks to be you though, I suppose."

"Can't complain too much," Mel replied. "Doesn't do me any good and... well frankly? I kind of like the gig. I'm by no means a 100% bonafide slayer but I kind of dig the job."
