The gym, Friday morning

Aeryn's had a tough week, mostly involving having to try and talk to people about things when what she'd really rather do is hit them until they realize she's right. Which is why she gets to the gym really kind of early, mostly to make sure she doesn't have to fight anyone to beat on the punching bag.

Edward was in a foul mood, and it just got worse when he saw that someone had got to the punching bag before him. He'd really been looking forward to seeing if he could raze another one.
He looked around to see if there was anything else he could destroy.

Aeryn hears someone come in, and looks over her shoulder to see Henry. "I'll be done soon enough," she says.

She might not be, actually. You never know.

Mel walked into the gym and nodded at Aeryn. "Morning."

"Hey," Aeryn greets her, getting in a particularly hard hit at the bag before turning to look at her.

"Little tense?" Mel asks as she does a quick neck stretch.

"Bad week," she explains. Kind of. "You?"

"Didn't go to hell again and nothing happened on Tuesday," Mel said. "So really just kind of bored."

She nodded over to the practice mat. "Spar?"

"I'm up for that," she says, getting one more kick in at the bag before heading towards the practice mat.

Mel did a quick neck roll and hopped on her feet to loosen up. "Anything I need to know first?" she asked as she moved in her ready stance.

"I'm in a bad mood?" Aeryn shrugs, getting into her own stance.

"Works for me," Mel said then charged at Aeryn and threw a flying kick at her.

Aeryn moves to block quickly, hoping to throw Mel off balance from the start.

Which of course does happen and Mel falls on her butt.

"I meant to do that," Mel said scrambling to get up.

"Of course you did," she says, and as soon as Mel's up, she's aiming a punch to her side.

Mel attempted to block it but missed and let it hit herself. She grunted and followed it up with a haymaker to Aeryn's head.

Aeryn tries to duck out of the way, but gets a little clipped. She shakes it off, taking a step back to give some distance. At least for a second.

Mel circled around looking for an opening and went in with a feint.

She buys it, going to block the shot. Oops.

And Mel follows it up with and uppercut.

Yeah, that was Aeryn's fault. She's stunned for a second, then immediately attempts to retalliate with a kick to Mel's hip.

Mel lost her balance and hit the ground again and tried to scramble back to a fighting stance.

Aeryn tries to take her down again with a sweep of her leg as she's getting up.

Mel probably should have been ready for that, but she wasn't and she landed on the mat flat on her face.

Aeryn takes a step forward, offering her hand to help her up.

Mel grumpily took Aeryn's hand. "Okay. What did I do wrong?"

She helps pull Mel up, saying, "Once you fall, you give the other person a definite advantage. You have to compensate and scramble around. Give yourself a good solid base as part of your fighting stance. Make sure the other person can't get the advantage that way."

"Okay. So what's a good solid base?" Mel asked.

Aeryn shows her a stance with her feet placed just so. "You still have mobility, and can even still get kicks in, but you're not going to fall over with every hit."

Mel assumed the stance and tried to get a feel for it. "All right. Let's try this again."

Mel then went after Aeryn with a spinning kick.

Aeryn puts her guard back up quickly, and if she's a little more forceful with her block this time, it's because she wants to see how Mel stands up to it. So to speak.

Mel drops back to her stance with a small smirk on her lips. She circles Aeryn slowly before letting loose with a two punch combo.

Not used to playing defensive this much, Aeryn blocks the first shot, allowing the second to connect when she moves back to position too quickly. She follows it up with a hit to Mel's left shoulder.

Mel took the hit then attempted to grab Aeryn's arm and perform a leg sweep.

Aeryn can't see that coming from this position, but puts her weight forward so that if she falls, it'll be into Mel.

Mel falls to the ground with a thump but attempts to roll back into her stance.

Aeryn picks herself back up quickly, getting back into position and giving them both a second to get together.

"I see what you mean," Mel said circling around patiently.

"Good," she says, striking out with a punch to Mel's stomach.

Mel blocked the punch and responded with a feint to the head.

She's not falling for the feint twice, moving back a tiny bit in case she has to, but aiming for another kick at Mel's hip with the same movement.

Mel took the kick and backed up a few steps to recover. Then she forward with a couple of punches.

Aeryn takes the first, but blocks the second, going for an uppercut without skipping a beat.

Mel's head snaps back but she keeps her balance.

However now she's getting a little peeved.

She throws another spinning kick. Maybe a little harder and faster than she intended.

Aeryn feels that one, taking a step back briefly just to get her breath and shake off the ow.

Mel took a step back as well. "Sorry. Temper got the better of me."

"I'll forgive you this time," Aeryn says, taking a breath.
