The Salle; Tuesday Afternoon.

While she had been planning to work with her Western sword lately, when Setsuna got to the salle, she realized she really hadn't been paying much attention to any of her swords lately. Too much of a focus on hand-to-hand combat. This lead her to almost immediately grab Yuunagi, and she set to working on her forms, thereputically going through them while trying to get all her thoughts in order. She usually found steel to be the best therepist.

John walked in, holding a piece of rebar wrapped in cloth and friction tape.

Sweeping around in spin that sent her sword angling down, Setsuna held her pose, but shifted her eyes toward John a moment, arching her eyebrow. She then swept up into another movement that send her sword arching around as she shifted sides. Pose. "Hello, John." Shift, double arch, pose.

John did a vaguely kung-fu pose that was probably better suited to someone using a tonfa or broken pool cue. "Yo. How's things?"

"Fine," Setsuna responded, finishing out the set and then, with the usual, superfluous twirl, held Yuunagi prone at her side, then nodded at John's own impliment of supposed destruction. "What is that you're working with today?"

"It's a very bad sword. Redneck claymore. For strenght training without worrying about cutting stuff. Like me. I like my toes."

"I see," Setsuna arched an eyebrow as she inspected it carefully. "Clever. But, then what happens when you get a real sword, and you swing it too hard because it ends up being much lighter than you're used to? Your balance and control will be off..."

There was a brief pause. "But that is how a lot of Western fighting seems to go, really..."

"Hey, the way things are in my life, I've got more use for a piece of re-bar than I do with a sword. Sword'll chip or shatter, rebar will bend a little. Unless I make it out of springsteel, and I've noticed a distinct lack of truck springs on the island."

Setsuna gave him a long, hard look, as if the statement to a sword's weakness was a personal insult. "A sword won't chip or shatter if you know how to use it properly..."

"It will if you're using it to try to hack apart a chromoly alloy skeleton with titanium reinforced joints." he said flatly.

"Then it isn't doing a very good job of," Setsuna shuttered; such a distasteful word, "hacking, is it? Perhaps a sledgehammer would be a better tool for such base acts."

"Yes, a sledgehammer will work better. Also, a foundry press works amazingly well. As does molten steel. Explosive rounds? Not so much."

John looks at the rebar and smiles a bit. "But enough about sword envy. How's things?"

"Fine," Setsuna responded in an oh-so-helpful and elaborative way. "How's things with you?"

"Pretty good, actually. You wanna get a practice sword and beat me with it a few times and pretend we're training?" he asked like a goof.

Henry walked into The Salle, and gave a small wave. "Good afternoon. This isn't your usual day for practice, is it?"

Smiling lightly, Setsuna nodded her head to Henry in response to his wave. "No, not typical, but I decided I needed a little extra work today." Finishing up a form, she sheathed her blade and approached him. "How are you, Henry?"

"I'm doing well. And yourself?"

"A bit on edge for some reason," Setsuna admitted, "but other than that, quite well. Did you come down today for a little bit of work?" His surprise at seeing her suggested that maybe he'd been doing a bit of work on his own, which left her feeling a little proud.

Henry looked at his feet. "Well, possibly... I've been reading a little about swardsmanship, in my spare time, but I know that doesn't amount to practical study at all..." He felt a little embarassed. He really didn't know too much yet, and didn't know if it was all right to be studying without his teachers' approval.

"Oh, don't be ridiculous!" Setsuna enthused, beaming at Henry a little. "Most swordsmen make the mistake of thinking it is purely a phsyical thing, but to engage in the mental part of swordwork is essential. It is one thing to be able to swing around a blade, but to know a sword is something entirely more!"

She almost bounced with the pride she was feeling. A pupil who understood the importance of both sides of knowledge! She could kiss him!

Of course, she wouldn't. That would be rather inappropriate.

Had Henry been conscious of Setsuna's thoughts, he would have thanked her profusely for her restraint.

Henry nodded a little, looking a little more confident. "Right. Would you mind if we practiced a little, or are you otherwise occupied?"

"Certainly nothing else on my hands at the moemnt," she smiled. "I'd love to get in a bit of work."

Henry grinned. "Thank you!" He hurried off to get Daisuke from the locker, but was somewhat slower bringing him back. He didn't think that running with a sharp implement was a very good idea, at least not with his level of training.

Setsuna would have applauded his thoughts. "Anything in particular you'd like work on? Maybe some new forms?"

Henry nodded. "That would be perfect."

"I know we started with the sharp movement," Setsuna said, unsheathing Yuunagi and quickly working through that first one they learned. "Did we cover any others yet?"
