2nd Floor Common Room, Monday Evening

After handwavily posting flyers around the dorms that said,
Party!
2nd Floor Common Room
Happy Birthday, Turtle!

Free Cake

Tannim headed back to the 2nd floor common room. He uncovered the sheet cake he'd ordered from J, GOB. It was decorated to look like a fifteen-dollar bill. It said, "In Turtle We Trust," and the center picture was a rough drawing of a girl's head with a long brown braid. He set up bowls of chips and other snacks around the room, and checked the fridge to make sure the sodas and Gatorade he'd bought were still there.

He set up his portable stereo and put in a CD. He wasn't sure what kind of music Turtle liked, so he'd brought an eclectic mix of his own favorites. Carbon Leaf, Nickel Creek and Gaelic Storm thrown in with Rush, They Might Be Giants, and a couple of mash-ups he'd downloaded. If those weren't to everyone's tastes, it was easy enough to change CDs.

He sat down on the couch, opened a Gatorade and hoped people would show up.

"Nice cake," Annette smirked next to Turtle, peering down at it. "I feel like running my finger through it cause it looks yummy."

"Ew! You'll taint the whole cake, Annette!" Turtle nudged Annette's shoulder a little with her own. She was going to say that if her finger goes in the cake, the cake goes in that pretty blonde hair of hers, but didn't, because she knew where that would lead and she actually wanted to eat this cake.

Grinning, Annette cut her eyes at Turtle. "Okay, I'll wait until you've at least had the first piece. Happy Birthday by the way. How old are you? Thirteen? Fourteen?"

Yeah, Annette was not winning herself any points in convincing Turtle not to shove that first piece right into that grin of hers. Bam. Annette would look good with cake all over her face, because they you wouldn't have to look at it. Ha.

"Fifteen, thank you very much," she said, with a slightly biting tone.

Ooh, if only Annette knew that thought of Turtle's - actually she could kind of guess if the look on her face was any indication - and Annette could only grin further because of it. Geeze! She was such a stinker.

"Fifteen! Wow. You are getting old!" Annette smirked at that tone, it was just too amusing not too. "So, I brought you some shiny. Close your eyes..." Hee. Hee.

Turtle snorted. "With age comes wisdom, Annette. I'm not closing my eyes around you!"

"Ahh, come on! Don't ruin my happy, Turtle!" Annette whined, though her eyes sparkled mischievously.

"It's my birthday party," Turtle pointed out. "The only person who's happy counts for anything is mine. And somehow, I don't think your happy co-aligns with my happy."

Annette giggled, "Happy is contagious and how can you be happy happy without the shiny happy? If you're shiny happy then everyone will see your shiny happy and go, 'Oh, look! Turtle is shiny happy! Let's have fun!' Oh, yes indeed. So, I dare you to close your eyes."

Turtle inspected Annette carefully. "Fifteen bucks," she decided. "That's my price for trusting you. So, that no matter what happens, if I do it, I still get fifteen bucks."

"Fifteen bucks it is, Turtle." Annette grinned cheekily. She would have paid more for what she was about to do when Turtle closed her eyes.

"Okay," Turtle nodded. Money was money, and she could kick the crap out of Annette's shin if she tried anything too bad. "Just remember. Only a truly horrible person with a soul as black as pitch does mean things to a girl on her birthday, so I suppose we'll find out what sort of person you really are, Annette Hargrove."

And, with that speech, Turtle closed her eyes and braced herself for the worst.

"You're worry is completely unfounded, Turtle. You must have faith in the unknown, especially when it comes from your friends whose hearts are as pure and white as...well, whose hearts are shiny!"

As soon as Turtle closed her eyes, Annette brought her hands from behind her back and quietly undid the bag of glitter she had been hiding. Grinning, she counted to three then brought her hands up and shook the entire contents over Turtle's head. There wasn't enough for a glitter bath, but enough to make the party girl shine for the rest of the night.

"Surprise!"

Turtle cracked open an eye at the word surprise to a shower of glitter and promptly chuckled a little. "Okay, yeah, that wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it was going to be." Grinning, she shook her head and watched as the sparkles drifted around her as she did so. "Thank, Annette."

Plus, Annette now owe her fifteen bucks.

"My pleasure, Turtle. Now you can go around all shiny. Everyone loves the shiny."

Fifteen bucks? What fifteen bucks?

"Ooh, look, gatorade. Think I'll get a cup."

Re: Cake, food and drinks!

"Pssh, everyone loves me even without the shiny," Turtle pointed out. "Now they'll just love me more."

And she let have Annette take her Gatorade while the fifteen bucks could sit and collect interest. Mwa ha ha.

"Right, Turtle," she said over her shoulder as she walked away. "Everyone loves you. How could they not? You're just too darn cute." Laughing she got her gatorade and mingled!

Yay, for parties!
