Fourth Floor Commmon Room, evening

Not in the mood to sit in her room, Isabel wandered out to the common room and flipped on the TV, flipping channels to find something decent to watch.

"No chance of getting them out instead?" Sam asked, already starting to turn the problem over in her mind.

Sam wasn't completely convinced by that argument, but let it rest for now. "And you're going to make this trip alone? Again?"

"You'd have no idea what situation you were walking into," she argued, "you could become a liability for them--it's not like wormholes are dimensionally predictable."

"War is different, Isabel," Sam frowned at her, "situations can change on a dime, and everything's fluid. One lost commander, or one strategically valuable hostage, and suddenly your brother is giving in just to keep you safe. Do you want that?"

Damn. Sam figured she knew what that meant, and Isabel's nightmares suddenly made more sense. "Leaving the window open helps," she said quietly.

"A little nightlight in the outlets. Don't use candles, they're too unreliable and a fire could start." She didn't look at Isabel.

"Good. And you should knock if you're up. I might be, too." And very possibly for similar reasons, though she wasn't going to mention that to Isabel.
