Rikku bounced down to the gym a little early, because it was one of those days where you really needed to dance around and yell a lot. Cheerleading: good for what ails you.

She seemed really early ... like, the first person here, even. Well, in that case, she'd start setting up some of the mats and warming up by herself. Everybody would show up sooner or later, right? Right!

Sam was not here to perv, but to apologize, before he reached the point of having waited too long to say anything to Alec for his apology to count. He peered through the crowd of cheerleaders, and tried to catch Alec's line of sight.

Alec spotted Sam, who appeared to be looking for him. He had a moment of confusion and wariness before curiosity got the better of him, wandering over to the bleachers. "Dawn's not a cheerleader," he said by way of greeting. "But if you're here to borrow a uniform for her, I'm sure it could be arranged."

"That's a tempting offer," Sam admitted, "but it's not why I'm here. Do you have a minute?"

He shrugged, folding his arms over his chest. "Sure, before practice."

"Okay. Um..." Sam trailed off for a moment, suddenly wishing he'd rehearsed this, like he usually did when he had to say things he didn't usually say. "I want to apologize. For everything from the last few weeks."

Alec's eyes widened slightly and he tilted his head as he looked at Sam in mild surprise. "Yeah?"

"Yeah," Sam replied. "Look, I'm not saying I don't think you're still kind of an ass, and I also don't think that I've deserved half the crap you've done to me over the past months. But...I know now what Manticore would have done to you if they'd found you. Between what I saw, and what you and Dean have said, I know it would have been...horrible, to say the least. And yet, you went back in anyway to help us rescue Dean. I can't really ignore that."

Alec still looked slightly wary, but he nodded. "Yeah, what you did was fucked," he said without much heat. "But I know you did it for Dean. Apology accepted."

Sam looked visibly relieved at that and nodded. "Thanks. Um, just out of curiosity, Dean didn't show you the picture he took of me during Ethics class on Monday, did he?"

Alec suddenly grinned. "You mean the one with the hat I got you? Where you looked like you could strip paint from the wall with your glare?"

Sam sighed. "Yeah, that's the one. I should have known that if he showed it to Dawn, he probably showed it to you too."

"I wandered in while he was developing them," Alec said, amused.

"I'm surprised he didn't put copies up all over the school," Sam remarked. "So everyone could share in your amusement."

"You think he'd do that?" Alec asked, curious.

"If he was pissed off to the point where that kind of public embarrassment would be required for him to forgive me? Yeah, I totally think he would," Sam replied. "Luckily, he just seems to be interested in entertaining you this time around."
