The Roof; Sunday Night.

Setsuna knew she should probably get some sleep; it was late, and she had her DAMM class and work tomorrow, but she was feeling rather restless. Like there was too much in her head, but none of it would really manifest into anything real and tangible. She felt like she was in a rather odd spot in her life...she actually had a few choices in front of her and she wasn't even close to be sure how to respond to any of them...

So she sat on the roof, looking out over the island, trying to emo think it all out...

[[ why, yes, it's open! And, yes, it's late right now 0.o ]]

Alphonse raised his eyebrows. "Cally? No, actually, I haven't seen her in... a while, come to think of it. Do you know what happened?"

"Huh." Alphonse made a thoughtful look. "Maybe it isn't," he said. "It wouldn't be the first time a spell went awry."

Alphonse shook his head. "It makes me wonder why people try to use it, sometimes-- all it ever seems to do is mess up."

"Perhaps," Alphonse said, uncrossing his arms to stretch them out over his knees again. "I know that much. Maybe I'm still kind of wary of it, because it seems like it messes up more than it benefits. I don't want anything to really go wrong because of it."

A part of Alphonse told him he'd heard the same thing from someone-- he just couldn't pinpoint who. "But that," Alphonse continued, with a hint of defensiveness in his voice. "is different. Alchemy doesn't mess up just because-- and with your swordwork, I know you've had enough training to not go wrong, somewhere."

He knew she was right, but Alphonse never really grew to fully like it, and so his stubborn side decided he didn't want to think of it that way. It never proved itself to be, anyway, so at least he felt somewhat justified thinking so.

"Mmn, I guess..." Alphonse responded with, and he wasn't that stubborn to further debate it. "It all doesn't make sense."

Alphonse rubbed at the side of his head sheepishly. "It's all, so... different. There's so many variations of it that don't always follow the same rules, and whatever those rules are don't always follow logic, and... It's confusing."

"Same here," Alphonse agreed. "Alchemy is so much easier. Most of the stuff in Ms. Calendar's class last semester went right over my head."

"Of course!" Alphonse replied, as if it were obvious. "It actually makes sense, and follows scientific principles, doesn't defy anything and works."

Alphonse let out a sigh, with a comedic-looking exasperated expression. "Oh, well. There's a lot of it here, anyway, so as long as there is I guess there's going to be people who use it."

Alphonse opened his mouth, yet didn't say anything, then promptly turned an impressive shade of red as he began to bury his face in his hands. "That was an experiment," he hastily replied, emphasizing greatly on the last word-- there was definitely, certainly a difference. Alphonse slumped over, putting his chin to his knees again. "A really dumb one that should have worked..."

While the hug came off as an unexpected one, Alphonse was a huggy kind of person to begin with, so he didn't really think too much on it. "Nah, don't feel bad," he replied, shifting in place absentmindedly to get his-- and possibly Setsuna's, as well-- position to be more comfortable. "It wouldn't be the first time. It was our fault that happened, still."
