Third Floor Common Room, Sunday Brunch

Dawn decided the time was right to attempt to make french toast. What could be better on Easter Sunday than brunch, right? So she'd handwavily bought some good bread, eggs, sugar, and vanilla, and was currently trying to figure out the right proportions of things. The griddle wasn't heating yet.

Being Dawn, in addition to syrup, she'd also bought strawberry jam, nutella, tobasco sauce, chocolate chips, walnuts, bananas, raspberry sauce, caramel, and peanut butter. There were also bacon and ham available if someone wanted to make them, and plenty of extra eggs and bread in case someone didn't want to go the french toast route.

She sipped at her pineapple juice and contemplated going to look up a recipe.

After working out in the gym, Buffy was hungry and went looking for food. Third floor smelled like food... Buffy wandered inside. She was kind of sweaty and yucky still from the workout. "Hi Dawn!"

Seeing Buffy all sweaty and yucky was nothing out of the ordinary for Dawn. "Hi! Happy spring fertility festival. There's food."

River had decided to leave her room. She still felt quite uneasy about attacking Lana yesterday, but staying in her room wouldn't make it better. On the third floor she noticed Dawn preparing food. Helping Dawn with that would certainly improve things.

"Need help?" River asked, sneaking up behind Dawn.

Dawn jumped a little in surprise (River was very good at being sneaky), but was smiling by the time she turned around. "Sure! I have no idea what I'm doing."

"No?" River asked. "Why?" She looked at the ingredients on the table. "Add walnuts?" She might not have an idea either, but was certainly prepared to improvise.

River waved to Buffy. "Exercise is good."

"Awesome," Buffy said happily. She went to ponder what to put with peanut butter. "What do you think? Banana or jam?"

Buffy grinned. "It is. You should join me one day." She frowned a little. "Are you okay?"

Dawn had personally been thinking raspberry or chocolate chips, but this was Buffy. "Um, banana?"

River looked uneasy. "Uncertain. I attacked Lana. Have feelings of guilt."

"Okay," Dawn was happy to be cooking with River. She understood being creative when it came to food. "And I wasn't always allowed near the stove. I guess setting a pot on fire means you can never cook again. Like I did it on purpose!"

Buffy nodded. "Bertie is worried about you, I think. Why would you attack Lana? Did she make a very bad cheerleading move?"

"Banana," Buffy agreed and began making her sandwich. "So how've you been? Any more... you know... with Sam?" Buffy was winking and blushing at the same time.

River gave her an understanding look. "Exploring the limits is an important part of the learning process. What are we making?" Asking was a lot more polite.

Dawn blushed and squealed, "I'm not telling you that, Buffy!" Mostly because she couldn't get over the feeling that Buffy was going to threaten Sam. "Good otherwise, though. You?"

"French toast," Dawn said, then explained, "it's kind of bread dipped in egg and other stuff, then cooked on a hot griddle and covered in toppings."

River thought it was quite sweet of Bertie to be worried. Then again it might just be fear of losing regular food deliveries. "She was possessed and made Jack make out with her against his will. Didn't know about the possession before I attacked her. Now she's herself and I feel bad." She gave Buffy a miserable look. "I shouldn't have used the reaver knife."

"You could totally tell me!" Buffy protested, giggling. "I wouldn't tell the squirrels or anything!" She took a bite off her sandwich while thinking. "I'm good too. Am working on something really secret though."

"So that's where that went," Buffy mused, then her eyes widened. "No, you really shouldn't have! They might make us take all of them down, and then what'll we have for decoration?"

"Ooooh, secret?" Dawn asked immediately, "Like what?"

River suddenly felt very hungry. "What can I do to assist you?"

Rikku bounced in enthusiastically. And got more enthusiastic when she saw the food.

"All right, brunch! Whoa, you got all kinds of good stuff! Is this for anybody? I mean, uh," she looked around nervously. "I don't wanna butt in but this smells good."

River looked even more guilty. "Didn't consider that. Should have stuck to the fountain pens. And I need to ask Lana to get it back." That wasn't something she particularly looked forward too.

"No, it's a secret secret!" Buffy grinned.

"Or xacto knifes. I mean, no, you shouldn't attack students, unless they're really really evil and not a cheerleader." Buffy nodded firmly. "You could make her a sandwich to apologize? Or easter eggs?"
