First Floor Garage, Tuesday Evening

Sam was drafting plans for a cloaking device and trying to figure out how to graft it onto the swoop bike. The swoop bike itself was taunting her--it was sitting there, practically begging to be flown, and flown fast, but she couldn't take it with her (no matter where she ended up after graduation) if it was going to be visible. The technology was simply too advanced and too alien.

She also occasionally glanced at the rough sketches Luke had made of his speeder, and was wondering if she should start over and install the cloak on the speeder.

"Hmmmm."

"Give me two seconds," Jack laughed and dashed off, taking the steps two at a time, callling back over his shoulder, "No leaving without me!"

Jack came bouncing back down the stairs and ran across the garage to swoop Sam into a hug, now wearing his long black coat. "And you'll let me fly it?"

Jack listened very carefully, because he wasn't going to risk screwing up if it meant Sam would get hurt, and nodded when she was done. "I'm ready," he said, flipping the tail of his coat out of the way as he mounted the bike. "Grab the doors, hop on, and lets see how this goes."

Jack followed Sam's instructions to the letter, and didn't forget to throttle, not able to stop himself from grinning as the bike roared to life. "Oh this is just too damn good," he muttered, stomping on his urge to open it up, keeping it slow as they left the garage.

"Beach?" he suggested, glancing back to ensure they were clear, then gunning it and heading towards the water. You could probably hear his woohoo half way across the island as he leaned into the wind, trusting Sam to pull him up if he went too far wrong.

Oh yeah, this was just too damn good.

No, not at all.... Speed, Sam, and the sea. Only way Jack could think of to make it even better would be to add another word starting with 's' to the mix, but even he wasn't crazy enough to try it on a swoop bike.

Probably.

He tilted his head so his words wouldn't be torn away by the wind and yelled, "How far out can we go?"

He nodded, disappointed but not surprised, and angled to follow the curve of the island, amazed at how damn easy the swoop bike was to fly - though he acknowledged having Sam co-piloting was probably a major factor in that - and glanced down to watch the waves whipping past. "I want one!"

"Awwwww!" Jack grinned at her over his shoulder then leaned farther forward as they swept over the causeway, hoping no one was underneath them. "Show me how to build my own!"

He nodded, a bit sad at the reminder of how little time was left, and throttled back, slowing as he headed towards the garage. "Thanks for this, Sam," he said, just loud enough to be heard over the wind, as he leaned back against her.

Jack responded to the pressure, easing down on the brakes to slow them nearly to a crawl as they arrived back at the garage. "Next time we'll go for longer," he said, eyes stinging from the wind but he didn't care, because that had been a blast. "I don't want to push my luck on a first go. Want to swap?" He flashed her a wicked look over his shoulder. "Or I might have an alternative suggestion."

Jack quickly turned the bike off and swung around so he was straddling it backwards, facing Sam. "No?" he asked, looking innocent as he too planted his feet.

"Can't I have both?" Jack slipped off the bike and kissed her, hands laced behind her neck. "Around the island then up to my room?"
