Cheerleader Practice, Wednesday, Afternoon, Gym

Buffy had been running around all day fixing things for the totally not-prom, and she was getting a little tired, but she was still ready for cheer time, especially since she had had an idea for her Media final.

She arranged everything as usual, and then she went to get a pen and a paper. On the paper she wrote: Sign here if you think that the cheerleaders should throw a cheer assembly on the 27th!

Then she waited for people to arrive so she could boss them around.

Lana came and sat beside her. "I'm so sorry," she said. "It's all my fault. If I hadn't had to go researching that prophecy, none of this would have happened."

Phoebe shook her head. "No, sister-friend, none of what happened was your fault. She would have just found some other way to get you and screw with us."

"But if I hadn't gone into Special Collections - if I'd just left everything alone, she wouldn't have been able to possess me and then, well..." Lana's voice trailed off and she ducked her head again. "Then nobody would have been hurt."

"If I had been paying more attention that night at the cabins, I woud have sensed her and could have prevented all of this."

"I'm assured she was very good at what she did," Lana said bitterly.

Phoebe felt even worse about it. "From what I understand, all three were," she said sadly. "If I had been paying better attention to my surroundings and my empathy..." She ducked her head. "I could have prevented everythng that happened."

"Sounds like a lot of useless blame for both of us," Lana said with a sigh. "It happened and there's nothing we can do and now we just need to live with the consequences."

"And deal with the aftermath," she agreed.

"Yeah," Lana said, her hand going up to her neck again to make sure it was still covered. "Lots of apologizing. Though most everyone has been really nice. But Jim..."

She shook her head. "He's been so great about it, but she really hurt him. Made him believe she was me but pulled away every time he tried to hold her and laughed at him when he said he loved her - me."

Phoebe frowned. "What's wrong with your neck?"

"Just a misunderstanding," Lana said evasively. "I don't want to talk about it here." She went to rub at her face, but had to switch hands when she tried to use the bandaged one.

Phoebe raised an eyebrow.

"My tea mug got broken," Lana said. "I cut myself on one of the shards." All true as far as it went.

However, the fact that she as an empath let her know that there was more to the story.

"You will be telling me the full story soon, yes?"

Lana ducked her head and nodded. "I will," she said. "But it's okay. It's better now."
