First Floor Garage, Sunday Morning

Sam had slept pretty well, but now had a burning desire to be greasy, which she was chalking up to a reaction to formalwear and heels. Since the other option--heading over to the gun range--didn't appeal right now, she was back with the swoop bike and trying to tweak the settings on the steering and brakes. They were still a little too sensitive for her, which shouldn't be a huge surprise, since they originally came from Anakin.

Within minutes, she was filthy, wearing a pair of old jeans and a sweatshirt, with a fresh pot full of coffee and doughnuts on the table, singing along to the radio.

Jack watched him go, then turned back to Aiden, crouching down in front of him. "Okay, so it's just the four of us. Do you want to play with the swoop bike as well?" Notwithstanding that Sam would kill him if he let either of the kids actually play with it.

Sam shot Jack a look that clearly asked him if he'd lost his mind.

Jack lifted his shoulders in a helpless, 'what else do we do with them?' shrug.

Luckily for him, Aiden chose that moment to interrupt. "I don't like working in the garage. That's Jake's thing."

Jake had seized the opportunity while his parents were distracted to climb on top of the swoop bike and was now making motorcycle noises. "Vrooom! Whooooooooooooooosh! Rrrrrrrrrerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!" He leaned left, then right, in a rough approximation of motorcycle riding.

Sam facepalmed.

Aiden rolled his eyes. "See?"

Snickering, Jack walked over and scooped Jake off the bike, holding him upside down. "That's not a toy. And your mom barely let's me ride it, so you definitely can't."

"Awww, maaaaaaaaan," Jake complained, then ruined it by giggling and trying to stretch for the floor, "It's so coooooooooooooool."

Aiden sighed and plopped onto the floor next to Sam, leaning against her legs while he watched dad spin Jake in an upside down circle. "He's always like this."

"Which one?" Sam held him against her side, enjoying the moment more than she expected to.

Aiden grinned up at her, completely comfortable, 'cause Sam was sometimes his mom, when he needed one. "Both," he finally decided, as Jack started spinning faster, and Jake's wheeeeeeeee filled the garage. "I can turn them into toads if you want me to."

Snickering, she said, "I appreciate the offer, Aiden, but I think just this once we'll let them be goofy. They both need it. What do you want to do, assuming Jake ever lets us leave the garage?"

He nodded, grinning his dad's grin, 'cause it was pretty funny watching Jake's getting spun around like that. "Maybe lunch? And we could show you where we came through the rift? We left you a sort of a note."

"Jake told me," she nodded, "and I'd like to see it. Thank you for taking such good care of him. He seems like a handful, and someone who is possibly in need of a homing device." Not unlike Daniel. "And lunch it is."

"C'mon, guys, Aiden and I are hungry."

Aiden looked up at Sam, little face very solemn. "He's my brother, he's my responsibility." He grinned again. "But if you could plant that homing thing on him it'd be lots easier."

Jack arrived with Jake dangling over his shoulder, giggling and out of breath. "You guys have the right idea, lunch sounds good."

"I'll see what I can do," she promised, tickling Aiden until he giggled. She glanced over at Jake. "Tools out of pockets, please, and then we can go."

Sighing, Jake pulled another screwdriver, an exacto knife, and four long bolts out of his pocket. "The bench, dad, take me to the bench! I need to put these down!"

When Jack did as he was told, bending over so Jake could reach it, he dropped them all. "Kay. Can we go noooow? I'm hungry!"

"Yes, please," she didn't take Aiden's hand, figuring he was too old for that. "Maybe we could find some jell-o?"

Aiden's happy, "Yes, please!" was lost in Jake's crow of, "Jelllllloooo!"

Jack winced, because that had been loud, and hoisted Jake higher. "Right, come on, we're out of here." He glanced at Sam, bumping his shoulder against hers, and added under his breath, "And if we're lucky, we'll survive."

For the record, they did survive, both lunch and the trip there, after which Jack let Jake drag him and Aiden to the park to show him their note, while Sam escaped went back to the garage.
