Tributary was far too loud in River's head, but got even louder when she was upset. Consequently, keeping her happy was a priority when escape wasn't possible. And Tributary wanted popcorn and cookies.

In the common room River made a large pan of popcorn without the lid on, then started making tuna and marmalade cookies.

"Hi..." Bronwyn studies the boy. "Are you in disguised?"

"Uh huh." Tommy nodded. "I'm a ninja, an' I don't know if this place is where they say this place is, so I have to be sneaky."

"Oooooooh! I know somebodies who went to ninja school. They have to be verrrrry verrrrry sneaky." Bronwyn lowers her voice - totally because she's being sneaky and not because she is in any way admitting to being losted. "Where do they say this place is?"

"Really? Who?" He lowered his voice too because for all he knew, they might be listening. "They say this is Fandom. But we din't cross the causething."

"My Daddy's friend Tori is a ninja! She has pretty hair." Bronwyn opens her mouth in an O. "Oh! FANDOM! That's where my Daddies and Aunt Z and Little Aunt Willow And Aunt Parker and and and otherpeoples went to school!" Yeah, she kinda totally forgot about being sneaky.

"You have an aunt Willow too?"

Bronwyn shakes her head. "I have TWO Aunt Willows! Big Aunt Willow an' LIttle Aunt Willow. ....Even though they're the same sizes."

Tommy tried to wrap his mind around that. "How do you tell 'em apart?"

"Big Aunt Willow is Daddy's age and Little Aunt Willow is Daddy's age." This does not sound remotely confusing to Bronwyn, no.

"Also Big Aunt Willow kisses girls and Little Aunt Willow only kisses Uncle Peter. And they say HI ME when they're both at parties and it's funny!"

"She kisses girls?" Tommy had never heard of such a thing!

"Uh-huh, she has a girlfriend." Not that Bronwyn remembers what the most recent one's name is.

"Wow. I wonder if my Aunt Willow has a girlfriend."

"The only way to find things out is to ask," Bronwyn recites.

"Me neither. Not till I'm old enough to go to SPD 'cademy. Then I get to learn spying 'cept it's called survelliance which is the same but with a different spelling."
