5th floor bathroom - early evening

"Come on Sebastian, just get in the tub." Annette whined, on her knees by the tub as it was filling with warm water.

"No."

"Why not?"

"There's no bubbles."

She thought about that. "Don't little boys make their own?" She heard that somewhere. Maybe TV.

Sebastian giggled. "Noooo."

"Get in the tub, Sebastian."

"Moooommmm, you can't see me naked."

"Don't I give you a bath at home?"

"No."

"Oh. Well how do you get clean?"

"Daddy does it."

"But he's not here."

"So."

"So I have to give you a bath."

Sebastian shook his head.

"You can leave your tiny man boxers on." She pleaded with him.

"Okay. Turn your head mommy."

Annette turned her head while her son stripped, and the next thing she knew he yelled and jumped into the bathtub, soaking the whole front of her.

"Great, Sebastian. Thanks, sweetie."

He giggled again. "You need a bath too."

Annette sighed, smiled, and proceeded to wash her son's hair.

Sebastian was splashing everywhere, especially his mommy. "You're a better bath giver than daddy!"

She grinned, "You'll have to tell him that, okay?" Yeah, she was getting soaked, but it didn't really matter. As long as he was having fun.

He nodded his head, up and down, up and down. "I don't have to leave yet, do I?"

Annette frowned at that and looked away from his big blue eyes, "I don't know, sweetheart. I don't think that is for me to decide."

"Who decides then? Maybe I can talk to them and tell them I need to stay with my mommy here so she won't be lonely."

Her heart lurched a little at that and she roughed his hair that was all spiky with shampoo, "I'm not lonely, Sebastian."

"You don't miss daddy?" he asked, his eyes wide and knowing for such a tender age.

"Sometimes." she admitted. "But that's a long time ago and you shouldn't worry yourself over things that happened so long ago."

Sebastian shrugged his little shoulders. "Mommy's shouldn't be alone ever. Kids I've met here have mommy's and daddy's and my daddy's not here with you, how come?"

"He's just not, Sebastian." Annette answered as best she could without confusing him more than he already was. "It's hard to explain, especially when I don't understand myself. But I love you, you know that, right?"

"Good." she gave him a sweet smile and continued scrubbing his head.

"Tomorrow? You can't go running around without me, okay sweetie?"

He nodded and splashed her again, giggling, and didn't say anything. He liked playing hide and seek with his mom.
