The Gym; Monday Evening.

Setsuna was sure glad that the father of her, um, son was a lot more responsible than she was because she'd been able to avoid both Teddy and Yukio successfully all day and had remained relatively without a bunch of half-Asian children clinging to her again so she could do things like this. She took up a practise sword and made a few pre-emptive swings, testing to see how this would be with her shoulder. Not easy, that's for sure, so she'd have to favour the other arm. Would be interesting. All she needed now was Ami.

She'd brought one of her Japanese copies of The Art of War for little Akira if he showed up in tow.

Ami facepalmed. //"Sailor Mercury? He told me too. Also told me he hadn't told anyone else. Great, my kid lies."//

Setsuna bit her lip a little sheepishly. //"Well, he may have forgotten. And he did tell me it was a secret and I shouldn't tell anyone...."//

The worried look in Setsuna's face became more pronounced. //"Ami-chan. I need you to be honest with me. This...this isn't a cosplay thing, is it?"//

//"I have no idea? It is the first i have ever heard of it. But... that fight was real. I saw blood."//

Setsuna frowned, worried, thoughtful, staring a bit at the mat as she tried to piece this together. //"...Who's blood?"//

Ami closed her eyes and swallowed. //"Hers."//

//"Drawn by you?"//

//"I do not know"// Ami whispered, but clearly she presumed so as she looked very disturbed by the prospect.

Which was something Ami would have to get over if she really wanted to invest in this warrior spirit inside of her. That look on Ami's face brought back unpleasant memories of the conversation...no, arguement...she'd had with Alphonse.

Did the drawing of another's blood really make you that bad of a person? And, if so, what did that make Setsuna?

She swallowed. //"I...think that's enough of the more conversational part of the lesson,"// she decided, wanting to think on this some more. //"Let's just focus on the swordwork now, okay?"//

Ami nodded, getting into the ready stance. It wasn't that she was worried about drawing blood. It was that she was worried about drawing blood of innocents. And she did not know that girl or what the surrounding circumstances were.

Setsuna charged forward again, with a diagonal strike downward onto Ami's shoulder, but the move was more distracted than before, as she tried to mull this over.

Ami parried, and circled to the left. She swept the sword around to knock Setsuna off her feet. She was no longer distracted at all.

Setsuna was able to jump back from the sweep in time, but barely, as she marveled at how quickly Ami seemed to be switching between the two mindsets. Really a marvel, this whole situation...

She had to figure it out....

She lunged forward, with a jab toward Ami's side.

Ami parried and flipped over Setsuna, jabbing for her back on the way down. It seemed that the switch was flipped and Ami was back to how she was before.

Hard to tell with that gymnastics training she'd had. Setsuna quickly rolled to move out of the way of Ami's jab...

...completely forgetting about her shoulder. She grunted out a curse, wincing as she cradled it instinctively as she paused crouched on the mat.

Ami waited. She was not going to attack, unless attacked.

Which made Setsuna frown as she, shaking off the pain, lurged forward with another stab for Ami's centre.

Once attacked, Ami was perfectly willing to defend herself. She parried and spun around, bringing the sword down towards Setsuna's head. If she was entirely all there, she would have asked if Setsuna's shoulder was alright.

Setsuna would have wondered about that, if it weren't for the fact that her mind was somewhere else entirely as well. With a grunt because it made her use her shoulder and feel its pain, Setsuna blocked Ami's swing toward her head, holding the block firmly, pushing into the other girl slightly. //"You had a perfect opprotunity to attack; why didn't you?"//

//"What?"// Ami got distracted, and therefore with the force of Setsuna's push she went down backwards.

Setsuna let out a frustrated grunt, dropped her arms to her side and trying really hard not to sigh in disappointment. //"Ami-chan,"// she said, slightly whining in its dispondance. //"You need to focus. I can't do this if every two seconds you're going to get all confused and flustered..."//

//"You asked a question. I think..."// Ami sounded frustrated as well. She wasn't choosing to be confused!

//"I asked why you didn't attack me,"// Setsuna said, //"when I was down, because of my shoulder. You had a perfect opprotunity but you just stood there..."//

Ami frowned. //"Why would i attack you if you were not attacking me? You were not a danger. Why would i attack someone who is down?"//

//"Why would you be in a battle if the person you were attacking was not a danger, Ami-chan?"// Setsuna asked. //"True, this is a spar, but your mindset must not remain in the realm that I am your friend and that you are perfectly safe. This shoulder wound..."// Setsuna was half tempted to pull up her sleeve and show Ami exactly how bad it was, but she only brought her hand gingerly toward it. //"...occured when I thought an enemy was down. Just because they are prone does not mean they are safe."//

//"But... "// Ami frowned as she looked at Setsuna. //"Attack is different from defense... I am not sure i... can..."//
