Walter had a rodent. Walter was under the impression the rodent was his girlfriend. Walter had a phone and was attempting to convince his employer that he needed a few days extension before leaving, since he wasn't sure when his girlfriend was going to be not-a-rodent again.

Arthur liked the word "girlfriend" coming from Walter. It seemed likely he'd be getting the extension.

Cally wandered into the common room and blinked at Walter.

"Did Pup inexplicably change races?"

"No." Walter grabbed the degu before it could run from the newcomer. "Nadia did."

"During finals week?" Cally said. "Suuuuck."

"I know," Walter agreed. "And I'm supposed to leave on Thursday. I can't leave when my girlfriend's a rodent."

"Awww, shucks, not sticking around for the summer?" Cally said.

"I'm leaving," Walter said bluntly. "I'm not coming back."

He kept forgetting that not everyone knew. Or he just didn't want to tell people.

"That's really not funny," Cally said.

"I tell you my girlfriend has turned into a rodent, you don't bat an eye. I tell you I'm going home, you think I'm having you on."

"That's Fandom," Cally said. "You're not joking, huh?"

"Not joking," Walter said, letting the degu run from hand to hand. "So keep an eye out for Nadia once I'm gone."

He looked at the degu and made a face at it. "Yes, I just told Cally to look out for you."

"Well, that... totally sucks," Cally said.

"Thanks," Walter said sourly. With Nadia right there, he didn't want to point out that he was going home and that wasn't a bad thing on most levels.

"On other topics, how are your finals looking?"

"Well, the DAMM one is over," Cally said. "Engineering, Villains, and Computers left. Shouldn't be too hard."

"The DAMM one was easy," Walter said, smirking at the memory of the vampire "child" that he'd gotten to run off with a bar of chocolate. "So was Ethics."
