Outside Chupacabra cabin: Tuesday afternoon

With no classes on Tuesday, there was nothing that he had to do. Karal was fairly certain he was never going to get used to that but, after much urging from Altra, he was making the attempt.

It was a beautiful day and he was currently sitting against a tree behind Chupacabra cabin, in riding clothes rather than his robes, holding Trenor on a long line so he could graze at the edge of the clearing.

There was a bright beam of sunlight shining on him, making him sleepy and warm, Trenor occasionally whickered happily, and he was rereading the Tale of Gregori.

Maybe having nothing to do wasn't quite so bad.

[ooc: open to anyone!]

Setsuna found herself at Chupacabra again before her Arts and Crafts workshop. Didn't understand why; she was just walking and happened there again, and took a seat. She looked almost helplessly at the boy sitting there reading, apologetically because she really didn't know why she'd stopped there; she just did. Nothing to contribute, no reason to, really...just...was....

Setsuna nodded back. "Hello."

Neil was making his way back to Sphinx after having been in town mailing an update letter to his father.

Such letters inevitably resulted in his face being set in a pensive frown as he walked along with his hands in his pockets. However the sight of a horse was a new one and it did cause him to pause and blink a couple of times.

"Goodness."

"It is nice to meet you, Karal." She nodded also to the horse. "Trenor. My name is Setsuna. And, no...I was just killing some time before my workshop."

She decided not to mention the fact that this particular cabin seemed to be having an effect on her these last few days, because it seemed silly. Plus it was utterly unexplainable and a total inside canon joke.

His gaze lingered on the horse for a moment before Neil turned towards the young man who had spoken and he smiled ato Karal.

"Yes, yes. I apologize, just of everything I've seen on Fandom to date I realized I hadn't seen a horse. Heard about one, earlier in the semester but I don't believe I ever saw him."

"It's a pleasure to meet you, Karal. I'm Neil Perry from 1950." Which seemed to work as the best short explination.

Stepping forward, he wasn't sure about shaking hands, since he'd learned that not everybody did that all over the universe so instead he sketched Karal a polite bow and smiled with open, easy friendliness.

"I'd love to."

While Neil hadn't ridden himself, he'd grown up around affluent schools and the girls' schools in particular had been all about the equestrian programs. As such he was savvey enough not to reach his hand directly towards Trenor's face, instead, as instructed, he kept his hand low and flat, holding it out but letting Trenor initiate contact.

"He's very handsome, though I fell almost honor bound to warn you that things rarely remain 'ordinary' around here."

There was a twinkle in his dark eyes as he said that and he grinned to Karal.

"1950 is a time, a little over 50 years in the past from where we are at the moment but sometimes it feels like it might as well have been another world."

At the nudge, Neil chuckled and mumured a soft apology for not having the foresight to have brought an apple but he reached up gently and rubbed softly along the velvet of Trenor's muzzle.

"I hadn't noticed my books being particularly chicken like today but that sounds about par for the Fandom course."

Keeping one hand low with strokes along Trenor's jaw, Neil reached up to straighten and stroke the horse's forelock.

"It has been odd, in fact I think it's been the hardest thing about adjusting to Fandom, wee tiny penguins, students turning into children, the occasional sentient mouse, they're nothing to trying to wrap my brain around sharing a dorm with girls."

Neil blushed a little as he admitted that last bit. He tilted his head, looking sideways at Karal, his expression thoughtful.

"You know, I don't think I ever thought to make the attempt." Of course when one believed their future already mapped out...

"Is that part of why you've come to Fandom?"

Lana was walking around the cabins, enjoying the day when she saw the horse and couldn't help but head towards it. "Oh," she breathed. "Isn't he beautiful!"

[identity profile] lovelylana.livejournal.com 2007-05-15 10:24 pm (UTC)(link)
"Trenor..." Lana smiled at the boy, but most of her attention was on the horse. "I wish I could have brought my horse from home."

"I'm sorry," she said ruefully. "I'm being rude. Hello, Karal. My name is Lana."

Lana stretched out a hand slowly towards Trenor. "Donatello? He's wonderful. I've had him for more than 10 years now, part of why I left him back home where things are familiar. I used to compete in equestrian events on him. He never led me wrong."

"No, it's quite alright," Setsuna responded with a light smile. "I'm usually terrible about meeting new students when they come; you are new, correct?"

"A year, now," Setsuna said. "I believe I lucked out, as my school before Fandom High was very similar to Fandom High, but I can see how it might be offsetting to someone who isn't used to this sort of place. Where are you from, if I might ask, Karal?"
