Karal was mostly over his cold, and completely sick of his room. He knew it was Christmas today, not that he really knew what that involved, but there was one Karsite tradition he was quite sure would fit.

Hot spiced cider.

There was a pot of it mulling on the stove, smelling of cinnamon and spices and all things yummy and if it was a teeny bit alcoholic, it was only enough to warm.

Karal was curled up on the couch with a mug of cider, reading, while Altra sprawled across the back of it. With the dorms as quiet as they were, he wasn't sure if there was anyone left, but he'd made enough cider for anyone who might wander by.

Dean had spent most of the last couple of days tracking down and getting things together for one of Sammy's presents and by now was a little sick of the inside of his room.

So he made a quick early morning trip into town for supplies and then set himself up in the Common Room. Currently he was cooking up breakfast, but he also had all the makings for some fudge and other candy recipes he'd found that he wanted to try. It was more ambitious than his usual cooking efforts, but, dude! Fudge!

He'd brought Hunter down with him as well, thinking that the cat had to be getting as sick of The Place as he was and Hunter was now happily stalking a small paper ball near the couch.

After sitting through his Wednesday class, Neil headed back to his room but he simply couldn't face another day of staring at the walls.

So instead, he headed for the roof. It was cool enough today to almost be a proper temperature and Neil bundled up in his peacoat and walked out to the ledge. After some thought, he carefully swung his legs over so they dangled off the edge of the building and then he sat down on the ledge, looking out across the island.

Ronan stood at the edge of the roof, looking over the island. It was strange to have gone asleep in one time, and to have woken up in another, but hardly surprising given the island on which he stood. He was, however, thankful for the Manual functions that told him when he was -- otherwise, he would have been far more surprised, and probably not realised for longer than he'd like to admit.

As it was, he was smiling softly, wondering if he'd be given a chance to try and set right some of the few things he truly regretted from his time here, or if it was truly too risky to try.

There was ice cream everywhere.

Milkshakes. Sundaes. Banana splits. Even a baked Alaska. Homemade ice cream sandwiches. A couple of gelati. Even a random lemon sorbeto. Ronan was standing at the counter, making dish after dish, a few well-placed wizardries keeping bowls of ice cream from melting before they could be eaten by whoever came by. The counter was already mostly covered, and there was still more sitting around in containers, ready to be served.

Bart had wanted ice cream, the previous Saturday. Ronan couldn't help but... well. There was a lot of ice cream, for whoever wanted it.

There was an air of menace hanging over the common room. An eau de danger, if you please. As if dust particles should be floating around and very masculine man in large hats and spurs should move into view to do battle at any moment.

Instead, Jeff ambled into the room, holding a stack of DVDs close to his body. "You are not beating me," he informed his opponent firmly. "I am the king of these movies."

Andrew snorted and hugged his own stack of DVDs closer to his side. Reaching up to adjust his sunglasses he replied, "You may be the king of those movies, but they are of a lesser kingdom - a kingdom with rocky soil where everyone herd scrawy sheep and eats tiny potatoes and stuff. My movies are the stuff of legend. Empires rise and fall at the whim of these films."

"That's not true," Jeff countered, gesturing wildly, "Mine have empires too, and they've got puppies in them! And naked women screaming. And really big monsters who can eat your head and still return back home in time for supper. Legends are built on these movies! Legends of globules chasing girls into cars that explode under the force of a million killer potatoes! Your films are no match for the killer potatoes."

"My films are going to rain down phytophthora infestans on your film." He nodded, trying to exude an air of cool. "That's, um, potato blight," he added.

Jeff just pointed a warning finger in his face. They sat down on the couch. It was weirdly coordinated.

For a change of pace, Neil found himself out in the common room with his books laid out near the sofa for studying. He had plenty of homework it seemed and he was starting to go back over his notes, organizing them in anticipation of mid-terms and finals.

You could never start studying too soon! Plus it gave him a reason to wear his old, comfortable, ratty flannel study shirt.

He'd made himself a grilled cheese sandwich for some brain food and on a lark had flipped on the TV for some background noise, which is how he got sucked into the story of some cute little masked mammels who lived on the Kalahari.

It seemed to be fashioned after a soap opera.

It was an exciting Monday afternoon in the common room. There was a Space Battles marathon on the movie channel and absolutely no classes to worry about.

Andrew and John were sitting on the sofa, engrossed in the program. And probably geeking out a little. "Dude, Hanno totally shot first, I hate when they show the special edition," John complained. Okay, a lot.

Class had been interesting, as Neil had never really thought about a food stuff as being able to predict the future but then, really what made a crystal ball so special?

Speaking of food stuffs, despite the heat outside that still tried to claim the day as summer, Neil's instincts told him it was October and thus time for comfort foods. This translated into the tried and true staple, grilled cheese and soup.

Only Neil liked to add bacon and tomato to his grilled cheese. So he was out in the common room, frying bacon and setting out the necessary ingredients for the sandwich protion of the meal.

Well, he was one class into the new semester and Neil already had homework to work on and perhaps a couple of extra books he was considering reading for the subject of Prophecy.

Currently, however, he was neatly OCDing out his notebooks for his classes and also cooking himself some pancakes, bacon and toast as a celebration for having homework.

Yes, at times Neil could be a bit of an academic geek.

At the counter in the common room, Ronan was just grating some cheddar cheese to go along with the pot of chili he had simmering; it was just about finished, so the smells should, by this time, be making their way through the dorms, as food smells tend to do. There were some rolls, too, that he'd handwavily picked up, both white and wheat.

While A.J. seemed to be busy crawling on the floor of the gym with a tape measure, Troy was bouncing excitedly as he waited for the cast and crew to come in. First rehearsal! A.J. was starting to wish he'd brought a tarp, because Troy looked about ready to explode with excitement and, well, quite frankly, A.J. didn't want to clean up the mess.

"Okay, guys," Troy said, "we're going to break up into two group; actor-types, you're going with me and we'll warm up and go over scripts. Tech-types, you're stuck with A.J."

A.J. let the tape measure snap shut dramatically and let out an evil chuckle. "Mwa ha ha. By the way, Aly is our awesome adviser, and without her, we wouldn't be able to do this, so I suggest we bombard her with gratitude, pie, and muffins. Great, big muffins." Not dirty. Mostly.

After work and a couple hours spent up fiddling with his jigsaw puzzle, Neil had almost overslept for his class that morning. This meant that he hadn't gotten a chance to have breakfast, only having enough time to dash through the shower and grab coffee as he headed for workshop.

Back now, he was STARVING! Thus, he fell upon the kitchen area of the common room like a fiend, soon filling the area with the scene of cooking bacon and pancakes today. Eggs just weren't going to cut it for brunch!

Neil had been spending much of the break week holed up learning one of Shakespeare's comedic monologues. Now, having knocked his desk lamp off the desk for about the fifth time in so many hours, he'd decided to take it out into the common room, where he had a bit more room to bounce on the furniture as he ran the lines.

If he also happened to be cooking some bacon and making some toast while also receiting the lines, well ... he was getting to be fairly good at multi-tasking!

Johnny started with a five to ten minute aerobic program, then he followed with stretching exercises to all muscle groups. Moving on from there he performed a light work out with adequate resistance, causing his body to warm considerably.

After that, he began a series of dumbell exercises, from flat dumbell presses to incline flies. He was working his upper body strength today as well as his abs and legs. Now he was working on front raises with his knees slightly bent, the dumbell against his thighs, palms towards his body.

It was a great work out and one he needed. He had been neglecting his body for too long. Imagine that? And wanted a good work out this morning that would last a good couple hours. More than likely it would be followed by a swim at the pool.

He set them up on a picnic table that he hauled over near his cabin's campfire so that they were available for sharing. He kept one section to the side so that his cabinmates would be sure to have some. He also put out various toppings.

That done, he took a bagel, a cup of coffee, and sat down with a Ninth Wonders comic to enjoy the morning.

With no classes on Tuesday, there was nothing that he had to do. Karal was fairly certain he was never going to get used to that but, after much urging from Altra, he was making the attempt.

It was a beautiful day and he was currently sitting against a tree behind Chupacabra cabin, in riding clothes rather than his robes, holding Trenor on a long line so he could graze at the edge of the clearing.

There was a bright beam of sunlight shining on him, making him sleepy and warm, Trenor occasionally whickered happily, and he was rereading the Tale of Gregori.

Maybe having nothing to do wasn't quite so bad.

Even though the sun didn't seem too inclined to peek out from behind the clouds, it was still warm enough and nice enough out that Neil decided to take himself up on the roof for a bit.

He was in a thoughtful frame of mind and took his legal pad of paper and a pen with him so he could write a letter to Todd while he sat on the ledge. Even though not a single one of those letters had been mailed, Neil still enjoyed writing them though at the end he tended to find himself in a melancholy mood.

Hence, the roof.

This particular Sunday, the roof was not a roof of emo. At least not so far. It was, if you had to assign it an emotion, a roof of tired smugness.

This would be because Jack was sitting on the edge, dangling his legs over, eating pizza and watching the sun set, feeling both tired and smug. It had been a very long week, but it had had an extremely satisfactory conclusion.

As long as no one killed him for messing with their stuff (and he was seriously considering denying all knowledge and memory of those incidents from here on out) he was going to call it a success.

[It's a roof -- unless a mad team of dimension-hopping builders suddenly appear in a blinding flash of light and erect a gazebo or something, it's going to keep being open! So, yes, of course, open, and Jack will happily share his pizza. I go AFK for a bit, but I'll be back.]

Alec had apparently decided to take Hades' announcement to heart today, as he sat in the common room kitchen with a giant pot on the stove and many weetiny penguins running around. The stove was on, the water coming to a boil, and Alec was hungry.

Katara hadn't had much sleep last night.  So after Chad came in, she migrated out to the Common Room so her lack of sleeping wouldn't bother him.  Shortly towards dawn, she fell asleep on the couch.

And woke up to find weetiny penguins staring at her.  "Awww" was the immediate reaction followed quickly by trying to entice one or two into her hand to pet.  They came willingly enough even though she didn't have any dried fish.  Which made her immediately wonder if they were hungry.  That was when the announcements came on, and, in a stunning display of hypocrisy from the girl who grew up eating penguin, Katara frowned mightily at the speaker.  "NOT FOR EATING."

So with a promise to the penguins that she'd try to get them food in a bit, Katara got up and found pen and paper.  A short but laborious struggle later with the English language later, she was searching for dried fish or something penguins might eat in the Common Room kitchen.

A sign was posted on the door.

It was Sunday. It was Sunday somewhere between breakfast and lunch. It was a Sunday suffering from the loss of an hour's sleep but it was also a Sunday where the rain seemed to be slowing down.

For all these reasons and just because, Neil decided it was a good time to make a Sunday brunch-ish type meal.

This mostly meant he added pancakes to his usual weekend fare of bacon, maple oatmeal, toast and on a whim he decided to also add in some eggs. Scrambled eggs were fairly straight forward so long as you didn't break the shell into the mixture.

Mice, as it turned out, weren't big on sleeping for long stretches at a time. This explained why Jack had squeezed under Cedric's door, exploring his way down the hallway, sniffing at each door until he ended up in the common room.

It took awhile, but he eventually managed to climb up onto the couch and scamper over to the remote control. //Okay, I can do this.//

Bouncing up and down on the power button eventually turned the TV on, and he used both paws to change the channel. He paused, twitching his whiskers, as the screen was suddenly filled with mice. Cute mice. //The Saviours, huh?//

Mondays were always Neil's hell day in the week. Two classes and he had thought he had a club meeting tonight but would have to check the flyer to see if it had been moved to another evening.

At least he had a whole new slew of homework to work on!

Grabbing a refreshing shower, Neil changed into more relaxed -for him anyway- clothes and then grabbed up his Fairy Tale homework and project work and headed for the common room. Ignoring the TV he flipped on the radio, picking something a little more contemporary and pleased with the beat of the music, danced stepped his way over to the counter.

There he began to pull together the fixings for soup and grilled cheese sandwiches. Grilled cheese with bacon and tomato, one of his favorites and good study food.

Annette was in the common room alone. She was sitting on the couch in her dorky long sleeved Valentines tee and a pair of pink sweats that had been cut off just above the knee. She had thick fuzzy pink socks on and she pulled them all the way up cause she totally felt dorky tonight. Alone. On Valentines Day. She was staring at the TV. MTV was on but the volume was turned all the way down because she was listening to her ipod. Dorky love songs.

Every now and then she would glance down at her right. There beside her on the couch was that very expensive bottle of rum she had Rose purchase for her. For the squirrels. For bribery. Totally for bribery. She brought it with her just in case. You know, if a squirrel happened to show up. Yeah.

Drumming her fingers atop her thigh she thought for a moment on all her gifts and smiled. Dick was just so dang cute. Everyone had just been so nice.

She looked down at that bottle again and moved it closer to her thigh. Then she picked it up and unscrewed the lid. Bringing it to her nose she sniffed. "Hmm. Maybe I should test it for the squirrels?" She nodded. Bringing the bottle to her lips, Annette took a wee tiny sip. "Hmm. Can't really tell." She took another. Then another. And then maybe another.

Posters bedecked with heart-shaped clouds had gone up around the dorms over the weekend announcing the Valentine's Dance on the 16th  - Friday evening.

So Monday morning, Peter set up a table in the lobby with tickets for the dance, 99 red balloons, and a sales sheet for roses to be delivered on Valentine's Day to other students and teachers.

There were also heart shaped cookies, pink frosted cupcakes, and lots and lots of Valentine's candy.  Because this was for Student Council and food was a necessity.

Now all he needed was people to give the balloons to and talk into coming to the dance.

The common room was still a bit of a mess from the Charades party last night, but Dean just looked at that as more potential cat toys for Hunter. Who was indeed stalking around the room and sniffing at everything, occasionally batting things with a paw.

The kitchen area was a little cleaner than the rest and Dean happily set about messing it up cooking breakfast. He'd seen some truly apalling things done to eggs lately and decided he'd rather trust his own cooking than anyone else's.

He had been working in his room all day yesterday and just needed a change of scenary.

Dropping the books on the couch, Neil headed over to make a little breakfast first. His usual fare, bacon, oatmeal, toast and coffee. Fairly soon the common room was filled with the scent of frying bacon and oatmeal with maple syrup.

Finding a spot to perch up on the edge of the room, Neil turned on the radio and then hunkered down into his coat and looked out over the island.
