Sphinx Campfire; Sunday Night.

It was late, she had both work and a workshop tomorrow (Deadpool's, no less), but Setsuna really couldn't sleep, nor did she feel like staying inside the cabin. It was almost the sort of night for a flight, but she wasn't exactly feeling up to that, either. She easily started a fire going, and took a seat, drawing up a leg to rest her chin on her knee, watching the way the flames danced around and trying not to let them remind her of places of employment turning to ash.

"Hey, bra."

That greeting was pretty unmistakable.

Unmistakable indeed. Setsuna looked up with a small smile. "Hey, Jude..."

"C'mon, bra, finish the song. You know you wanna." He hummed. "Take a sad song, and make it better . . ."

He settled down beside her with a smile. "How's it hangin'?"

Setsuna snorted a laugh, grinning at him, because she actually, for once, didn't even think of that this time. She had half a mind to keep it going from there, too, but, yeah, no singing from her unless really prompted or really drunk.

"Been better," she admitted honestly with a sigh, poking at the fire with a stick, "but, overall, I can't complain. Yourself?"

"Totally not complaining here. I was kinda bad-moody, but then detention yesterday was awesome." He wriggled closer.

"Two questions, then," Setsuna said, head tilting. "First, who did you have detention with? And second..." Her eye slid shut critically, but she was hiding a grin in there somewhere. "What did you do to deserve it?"

Jude held up one finger. "Constable Fraser." He held up another. "I was naked. Ish."

Blink.

"Naded...ish?"

Yes, her eyes were wide. Yes, she was blushing. Although she was rather proud of her ability to picture more of the -ish (and a shirtless Jude, by the point, was no big deal at all; she had, after all, seen even his tattoo) than the naked.

Jude rubbed the back of his neck. "I was in my boxers! Alec and Seely were, like, totally naked, but, uh, Rikku was there and I don't think I'm ready for her to see . . . that. Yet. Again. For real this time."

"Yet? Again? For real this time?" Instead of flailing, Setsuna decided a facepalm would be more appropriate here, one that ended up much bigger than she expected.

"Ow..." she murmered, scrunching up her nose as she rubbed her forehead.

Jude winced. "Ouch, bra. You okay?"

His ears went pink and he tried to explain. "Okay, like, I turned into a cat for a weekend. And then when I changed back, I was snuggling with her but I was, y'know . . . yeah. And she said that she didn't see anything, but then later she said that she saw a little bit?"

Jude had the blissful convenience of just his ears turning pink. Setsuna, her eyes closed tightly at all the thoughts running through her head at that, had a whole faceful of the colour right now.

And what did someone say to that? Certainly not what she was thinking.

"Umm..."

...That'll do.

"Anyway, there was a mutiny and it was a naked mutiny and we redecorated the VP's office," Jude hurried on. "And that's why I had detention."

Setsuna let out a rush of air in relief for the deftly delivered completion of the explaination. She let out a nervous chuckle. "I...I see. Well, was the reason for earning the detention well worth it, then?"

"Tooootally. Actually, detention made up for getting detention." Jude looked smug.

"How do you mean?" Setsuna's head tilted while her mind hoped she wouldn't regret asking.

"You know the Mountie's hat?"

It took Setsuna a moment to recall, but then she nodded. "Yes. What about it?"

Jude beamed broadly. "I stole it. Off his head."

Another snorted laugh. "Any particular reason?" Although Setsuna would have to admit, she was very impressed by the ~~photoshop job~~ ninja-ing.

"John Crichton told me to. Kinda."

"There seems to sure be a lot of 'kinda's involved in this whole thing, Jude," Setsuna observed with a small smirk.

"I am merely interpreting my orders," Jude said loftily.

"I see, I see," Setsuna chuckled a little. "Well, congratulations on a successful mission."

"Thanks, bra." Jude grinned, bouncing. "I stole a Mountie's hat. That's awesome."

"Did you get in trouble at all for it?" Setsuna asked.

"I got away." He made a zoomy motion with his hand.

Setsuna smiled softly. "I should have figured as much. Good job."

Jude bounced. "And it kinda rocks 'cause Rikku's totally into pranking and stuff."

"Hey, there was that one time when we all TP'd the school..."

No, she was not getting defensive, thank you very much. Just reminding Jude that she could be ~~dragged in kicking and screaming~~ convinced to be into pranking and stuff, too.

"Yeah, that was fun," Jude said nostalgically.

"No hats out of it, though," Setsuna was willing to admit.

"Nah. But it was still pretty sweet." Jude smiled at her. "I miss hangin' out with you, bra."

"I miss it, too," Setsuna lightly smiled back. "Been so busy with so much, but, I mean, hey. Summer's here again. Back to the start and all that so maybe we can get back into the flow of it a little. ...A..Assuming Rikku won't mind, that is..."

"Why would she mind?" Jude said, lifting one shoulder a bit. "You're not, like, gonna make a move on me or anything." Teasing.

Which Setsuna took as slightly not teasing and concluded that, no, she had enough problems to worry about on that arena, thank you. "And I know Rikku's cool and everything, and I don't know much about relationships in general, but I know most girls might find the situation of their boyfriend hanging out with their exgirlfriend...problematic."

"It might be for some, but . . ." Jude shrugged. "We're friends, right? And Rikku trusts me. And . . . I miss you."

And, having the weekend she had, Setsuna sort of latched onto that last part more than she probably would have let herself normally. She smiled. "You miss me? Really?"

"Totally," Jude smiled, leaning against her knee.

And it would have been impossible not to feel better when faced with that. Setsuna smiled back and nudged him a little. "I totally miss you, too, so, yeah, definitely need to start hanging out more."

"Suh-weet," Jude grinned. "If we were back in the dorms, I'd totally say movie night. But I didn't bring any of my stuff."

"I have my laptop," Setsuna pointed out. "It's important to keep it with me for business, but it is DVD capable...screen's not a poor size, either."

"Awesome! 'Cause I know there's a buncha movies I never made you watch."

Setsuna snorted a laugh. "You never made me watch any of them, Jude. I actually enjoyed most of them. But, so I know what I'm getting myself into, what more did you have in mind? There wouldn't happen to be any more of the Dragon Thunder ones, would there? I liked that one..."

"There totally is!" Jude grinned. "And I gotta bunch more like 'em."

"Good," Setsuna nodded. "It's a date the-- Errr, a date, in a completely platonic sense of the word, because, well...crazy English and your multiple possible meanings for several words and not at all being a literal language, that is."

Jude chuckled mellowly. "I gotcha, bra."

And she blushed a little. "Cool..."
