Kraken Campfire, Later Tuesday Night

Rikku hoped it wasn't too dark that people wouldn't be able to see that she now had purple hair.

Aly was on her short list of Favorite Teachers Ever.

She hoped the Kraken bathroom had recovered from any possible dye-related mishaps.

Rikku sat in front of the campfire, bouncing to herself. Ready to chat the ear off anybody and everybody who dropped by.

"Because you need it," Mel said with a nod. "Too much book learning will drive you insane."

"The gremlins were probably only defending themselves," she says. "What did Jude do?"

"Well, mine are mostly focused through touch, and the hands are where you find some of the densest concentrations of nerve endings on humans," Bridge offers. "So it makes a certain kind of sense, I guess. Of course, that's really just my own hypothesis since as far as I know, I'm the only one with powers like mine. My teammates all have different powers even though they're the result of the same accident."

"Well, now that I know your head is purple, I'll be able to pick you out even more easily. And as for myself-- I've been writing. Thoughtfully." Valentine indicated his very empty page. "I'm thinking my address to Kraken will probably consist of something tacked to the door stating that I've made a completely legal invasion of the free alcove and will be reachable for further comment only of there's cake involved."

Rikku blushed a little at that. "Oh. Uh, long story. Has anybody told you that timelines are all weird here, and strange things happen a lot?"

"You will. I'll let you know when it's blonde again, if you want a heads-up." Rikku smiled. "And maybe you just say 'hi, I'm Valentine, it's nice to meet all of you.'"

"And maybe you can move on from pillow forts into a whole other environment."

And it's at that moment Hermione realizes she's been in Fandom too long.

"I've surmised as much," she said dryly. "Peter Pevensie is twice my age at home."

Mikey laughed and shook his head. "You should totally try orange anyhow, dudette. Might look natural or something? And even if it doesn't... Orange is, like, the best color out there anyhow." He clicked off his walkman and bounced in place. "I'm totally cool, honest. And not in the 'oh wow that's a lot of fake snow' sense, like from detention. I'm a pretty tough turtle."

"So, you mean to tell me that you find my face to be odd?" Valentine was pretty certain there was irony in this somewhere, even if the turtle did seem perfectly normal to him. "Not that you'd be the first one, here, mind you. What's so odd about having a mask for a face, anyhow?"

"Duuude, Raph!" Mikey bounced from foot to foot and waved a giddy hello. "Long time, bro! Isn't this place awesome?"

"Just over a year now," she nods. "How do you like Fandom so far?"

"I've never seen one. Are they, like, monsters? Fiends?" Rikku shrugged. "Oh, and Jude ... had a Canada flag thing on as a cape and was singing some really happy song that involved making these noises that kinda sounded like someone was crowing? So, uh. I kinda went for 'okay, something got you, too, maybe you need to come inside.'"

"Any particular other environment you had in mind? I'm entirely open to suggestions," Valentine stated thoughtfully. "I would like the three-quel to outdo both of its predecessors."

"Oh!" Rikku gasped. "The - Peter in my cabin, who you said's a king?" She had forgotten to ask him about that. "Whoa."

"Okay, uh. The thing is? Bayla is ... m-my daughter. Who may or may not happen and all that because it was some weird alternate reality thing, but ... she was insane and didn't listen to anybody and so hyper and ..." Rikku smiled a bit sadly. "And I miss her, sometimes."

"Insane, really?" Most of Bridge's workshops were actually fairly normal, by his reckoning. But then he wasn't in, say, the Jerries' class or Sex Ed or anything like that. "What sort of classes are you *taking*?"

"Little Bro Dude!" Bridge waves.

"A heads-up would be fantastic," Valentine agreed, relaxing somewhat as she gave him the offer. "And you figure it would be so simple? Just a 'Hey how are you doing,' and that's all?"

Rikku laughed. "I still have the orange. I'll give it a whirl sometime, too. I've got blue and red and green, too. I can just kinda have a rainbow head going for a while."

She nodded. "Glad you're okay, then. I didn't know they'd make us freeze. Detention is usually way more fun than that."

"Your brother said you're a skater, dude? Did he mean just, like, y'know, that you act like one, or do you board?" She bounced a little.

"How'd they hold detention in Canada?" Donnie asked, eyes wide. "That's kind of far to go just to punish you."

He gave her a look, then grinned. "Yeah, usually. Not usually very subtle pranks, but that's Mikey as well."

"I didn't say odd. I don't use the word odd except for just then twice. Just sayin' I haven't met anyone with a mask for a face."

"Well, it involves air being sucked in to the engine and compressed, and then the compressed air is mixed with the fuel, and then the fuel is lit, and this provides the power necessary," Bridge says. "This type of engine is generally bigger and more powerful than the combustion engines you'd find in a car."
