Camp gym, Thursday afternoon

Aeryn's been slacking a little when it comes to the gym, opting instead to go for runs or do other things outside as long as the weather allows. So with gloves in hand, she goes back to the camp gym for the first time this summer.

And once she's hitting the punching bag, this just feels a lot better.

Qui-Gon had yet to check out the camp gym and decided after class this afternoon to do so. Because there was nothing like a class fighting your classmates to make one want to work out.

He wandered in and looked around.

Hearing someone come in, Aeryn stops her workout long enough to see who it is. She gives the new kid a little nod hello.

Qui-Gon nodded back. "I'm not interrupting you?"

"Not at all," she assures him. "It's a big gym."

Qui-Gon nodded again and went to check out the other equipment. "It works that way back home, but I wasn't sure about all the conventions here yet."

Finishing off a punch and trying to brush a piece of hair out of her eyes with a glove, she asks, "Where are you from?"

"Coruscant," Qui-Gon said, running a hand over a weight machine.

After doing less than wonderfully -- not that she would admit it -- in her fighting class, Aravis dressed in one of her two sets of boy's clothing, wound her hair into a tighter braid, and headed to the camp gym.

She gave a nod to the other girl, and began to stretch out her sore muscles.

Aeryn gives her a nod back, going for another kick, not prepared at all to check out any newbies in the gym, really. She would never do such a thing.

Aravis watches for a moment before commenting, "You are quite good."

And yes, she's still a little surprised at how many women can fight here.

It's weird for her to give a thank you to something like that, so instead Aeryn gives another little nod and asks, "Do you train?"

Aravis nods. "I am not as good as I'd like, yet."

"Here, you'll get the practice," she says. "I'm Aeryn."

She pauses.

"Do you know John Crichton?"

Vi shot a sheepish smile at the other girl. "You need more of a workout than fighter class, too?" she asked.

Aravis arched a brow. "Something like that," she said. "I need to improve. You looked as though you were doing quite well, though."

Vi tried to hide her smile, but failed pretty miserably. "Thanks. I've kind of been practicing a lot lately," she said. "You weren't too bad."

"Thank you," Aravis said with a small smile. "I hope to work on it more." She ducked her head. "I am Aravis Tarkheena, hello."

"Hi Aravis," Vi said. "I'm Vi. I try to practice a couple times a week. I haven't exactly made it this week."

Vi came into the gym after class and started moving through a series of modified sparring postures. "Steady and smooth," she muttered to herself.

And then her ankle collapsed under her, making it clear how very not-graceful she was.

Aeryn startles at that, immediately asking, "Are you all right?"

"Fine," Vi said, rubbing out her ankle before bouncing back into position. "I just have a hard time with that one stretch. My leg doesn't want to bend that far and it bugs me."

"And yet you keep trying?" she asks, sounding more amused than anything.

Vi was almost inverted now in another stretch, though she kept her eyes on Aeryn. "Well, yeah," she said, if it were obvious. "I figure sooner or later I'll get it. Or else, you know, snap my ankle, but I heal fast."
